When you think of Leicester City, you think of Jamie Vardy. The club legend has been leading the line for the Foxes for the past ten years and, at 37, is still going strong.
Vardy already has four Premier League goals this season, more than he managed in the 2022/23 season. He has been extremely clinical, scoring his four goals from just ten shots. More impressively, out of his ten shots, four have been on target, with Vardy scoring in all four instances.
However, his retirement is at the back of everyone’s head. The former England international may choose to hang his boots at the end of this season after hopefully helping Leicester stay up.
Odsonne Edouard has been disappointing
In the summer, Odsonne Edouard was brought in on a one-year loan deal from Crystal Palace. Leicester were interested in him during his Celtic days but chose to go for Patson Daka instead. The French striker hasn’t had the best times in the Premier League, and his struggles have continued in Leicester.
Edouard has played just 26 minutes of league football for Leicester in the five games he has been available for. The striker started against League Two opposition Walsall in the Carabao Cup but was disappointing. Edouard doesn’t seem to be in Steve Cooper’s plans, and the manager not starting him against Manchester United was a telling sign.
As the season progresses, Leicester will have to rotate their key players, especially Vardy. If Cooper does not consider Edouard a viable option to lead the line, the Foxes will likely consider signing another forward in January. A lack of funds means that it will mostly be a loan deal.
Steve Cooper also has Patson Daka and Tom Cannon as possible options
Cooper can also rely on Patson Daka or Tom Cannon, who is on loan at Stoke City. Daka has been underwhelming in a Leicester shirt but could be given a second chance under Cooper. Cannon is impressing in the Championship, and reports suggest that Leicester will recall him in January. While the Foxes reportedly want to sell him for profit, Cooper may give him a chance in the Premier League.
While nothing has been decided now, seeing how many minutes Edouard gets will be interesting, as it is a big indicator of Leicester’s possible January business.
