Journalist Alan Nixon has reported that Leicester City are considering recalling forward Tom Cannon, who is on a season-long loan spell at Stoke City, in the January transfer window with the intention of selling him on a permanent deal.
Cannon signed for Leicester last summer, with the Foxes paying Everton a fee of £7.5 million for his services. However, with four strikers vying for a single spot in Enzo Maresca’s system, the 21-year-old was restricted to just three league starts.
Steve Cooper’s appointment didn’t change Cannon’s situation at the club. The new manager felt that the forward was not ready for the Premier League and put him on the loan list. There was plenty of interest for the youngster, with more than ten Championship clubs chasing his signature.
Although the forward struggled in his first couple of games, the manager kept faith in him, and he delivered. Cannon recently made headlines after scoring four goals in a match against Portsmouth. It gave everyone a glimpse of his talent, and Foxes fans eagerly discussed whether the Ireland international had a future as a Leicester forward.
Leicester City may recall Tom Cannon in January to sell him permanently
However, according to Alan Nixon, Leicester are considering selling Cannon during the winter transfer window. During the summer window, the Foxes put a £10 million price tag on the forward, but with no clubs willing to match the asking price, they sent him out on loan. Teams still show interest in the forward and may be willing to shell out £10 million for Cannon should Leicester recall him.
Nixon revealed the clubs most likely to sign Cannon, stating, ”Stoke could look at that deal, although they are under new management now, while Sheffield United and West Brom are still keen. Leicester hope Cannon’s form will get them the £10 million they wanted in the closing stages of the summer market.”
With a couple of months until January, Cannon will aim to continue his good form and force his way into Cooper’s plans for this season or the next.
