Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Marquinhos from São Paulo on a long-term contract last week.
Developing through the São Paulo academy and later progressing into the first-team squad, the young sensation has flourished into one of the hottest prospects of the sport. The talented 19-year-old made 33 first-team appearances during his stint with the Brazilian club and was a part of the Campeonato Paulista winning squad in 2021.
At such a young age, the player can operate as a winger but can also play through the center and adapt to playing on the flanks. With the best of his years still ahead of him, he could be groomed well under the likes of Arteta and the dynamics of the English top-flight.
The gaffer will be hoping the youngster makes a similar impact to Gabriel Martinelli, who is a regular in the first team at the Emirates Stadium. With Nicolas Pepe’s exit looking to be a real possibility, there is certainly an opportunity for Marquinhos to cement his spot in the squad.
How did Arsenal pull off this deal?
The São Paulo player was set to make his move to the English top-flight but not Arsenal initially. Wolves had a pre-agreement signed by the player and it was almost done with the youngster making a move to Wolverhampton this summer.
However, one of the companies responsible for managing the career of the former São Paulo striker, OTB issued an official memo accusing TFM, a managing partner of negotiating with the PL club without the knowledge of the Brazilian club.
The Morumbi club had no idea whatsoever that the player would be leaving them for Wolves on a free! It was at this point the Gunners stepped up with an offer for the player. In a negotiation brokered by OTB, São Paulo agreed to let Marquinhos leave for Arsenal for 3.5 million euros.
OTB and TFM signed a partnership for which now the duo has completed 3 years of convergence in the key ideas that permeate a good career path. However, TFM accelerated negotiations with small teams in Europe and skipped important stages of consolidation without the consent of OTB.
“From São Paulo FC to Wolverhampton FC., from Wolverhampton to Grasshopper FC. This was the partner’s project”, revealed by OTB on the bad and hasty choices of its partner. OTB Sports who share a great bond with Arsenal gave the athlete ‘the important and incomparable offer’ to the PL club.
While the move to the English top-flight is not only interesting from a financial point standpoint but mainly will give the young sensation the opportunity to develop into a team with ‘enormous expression, in the biggest football league on the planet.’
The inclusion of OTB Sports in the fray during the transfer seemed to be very crucial for Marquinhos which helped Arsenal hijack the deal from its English rivals, Wolves. The Gunners’ fans will be excited to have the services of the youngster hoping that he creates an impact for the club in the years to come.
