Sheffield United goalkeeper, Dean Henderson is set to be recalled by Gareth Southgate.
The Manchester United keeper, on loan at Sheffield was excluded from the National side by Coach Gareth Southgate. Jordan Pickford, Nick Pope and Tom Heaton were selected ahead of the Blades goalkeeper.
However, Aston Villa goalkeeper, Tom Heaton has suffered an injury in training, due to which he will be pulling out of the squad. And as a result, Henderson is set to be recalled by Southgate.
The 22-year old was called up in October for international duty and was on the bench for the Three-Lions. He is behind Jordan Pickford in the pecking order for the Number 1 spot in the England team, but it is widely considered that he is well liked by the Coaching staff and could go on to replace the 25-year old sometime in the future.
Dean Henderson is well deserving for the call-up. The Blades’ keeper has only conceded 9 goals in 12 matches, the second lowest number of goals conceded behind Leicester City’s Kasper Schmeichel. He has also managed to keep 5 clean sheets, the highest by a goalkeeper this season in the Premier League.
Given his ability and talent, Henderson will surely go on to be England Number One. And his ambition will be to be Number One at Old Trafford. With Sergio Romero being 32 years old, the door seems open for Henderson to break into the Man Utd squad. But with David De Gea’s stay extended, it seems that Henderson will have to bide his time to attain the Number One spot for the Red Devils.
The goalkeeper will not want to play second fiddle behind the Spaniard, and instead get some minutes and experience under his belt. Given his performances at Sheffield, the club will surely want to make his deal permanent. The final decision, however, rests in Henderson’s hands who is starting to get England recognition.
