Leeds United are having a disappointing season with the Peacocks currently 17th in the Premier League table, 1 point off the relegation zone. The Yorkshire-based club was very impressive last season after their historic promotion from the Championship and finished 9th under Marcelo Bielsa.
The Argentinian manager was sacked on 27th February after a streak of 4 consecutive losses in which the Peacocks conceded 17 goals leaving them 16th in the league. Jesse Marsch was chosen by the club hierarchy with a long-term project in mind. The American arrived in the Premier League with Franz Schiemer, Cameron Toshack, and Mark Jackson joining as his assistants. The rest of the American’s backroom staff consists of personnel inherited from Marcelo Bielsa and may be ready to shake things up for the next season.
Manchester United’s assistant Chris Armas is a name strongly linked to joining Marsch’s backroom staff for next season according to Dean Jones.
Speaking to Give Me Sports, Dean Jones said, “He(Armas) needs to work with people that understand what he’s good at and give him the respect that he clearly deserves in his field of work. Jesse Marsch is somebody that knows him well, he’s definitely contemplating how his backroom team shapes up for next season and it wouldn’t be a surprise at all if he turned up at Elland Road.”
Armas and Co. find themselves in a bad spot after the troubles at Man United. With plenty of dressing room leaks stating there is a lack of unity amongst the squad and a lack of communication between the staff and players. A move elsewhere for the assistant may be the right decision since Ralf Rangnick will no longer be the manager of the Red Devils next season with the German set to be a consultant at Old Trafford but Marsch seems to be already well settled with the current backroom staff.
The matters off the pitch shouldn’t be a priority as of now for Marsch with the results on the pitch needing massive improvements. The shuffle in the backroom staff would even depend on whether Leeds survives the relegation fight and continues in the English top-flight next season.
