With the likes of Fabinho and Henderson both leaving in this transfer window, it was quite known that Liverpool would try to bring in a new Number 6 who would fit into the team, but so far they have been unsuccessful.

Though Liverpool have been able to get Endo, it was more of a necessity from the club’s part as they had no player who could start at the Number 6 position. Long-time target Romeo Lavia also chose to join rivals Chelsea. Time is not on Liverpool’s hands and recently an interest has been sparked in Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz.

Signed in 2019, Luiz has become an integral part of this Villa side and was also voted both Supporter’s Player of the Season and Player’s Player of the Season in the last campaign. Luiz is best known for dictating the game and pushing the play in the favour of his team, something that Liverpool has lacked since the last season.

He is also the main ball-playing midfielder in this Villa side. His game-changing passes are one of the reasons why he is an undoubted starter in Unai Emery’s team that will be present in Europe this season.

Though Luiz came very close to leaving in 2022 with Arsenal heavily interested it seems like Liverpool are interested in signing the Brazilian even though no concrete talks have taken place so far. Despite being a deep-lying midfielder, he has scored a total of 14 goals at Villa and they would be looking for a fee of around 60 million as Unai Emery rates him highly and is a key player in this Villa team.

Is there fire in the smoke too?

According to multiple reports, Liverpool will give one last push to sign a CDM. Luiz’s name has been discussed multiple times internally in the Liverpool camp and the Reds might just bid for him as the last resort. The transfer window deadline gives us lots of surprises and Liverpool fans can be hopeful of getting one this season.

Another name that has been floating around recently concerning Liverpool is Cheick Doucoure, but with Crystal Palace wanting around 70 million it won’t be happening. Luiz would perfectly in the current system Liverpool are playing in right now where either the Brazilian would stay back and spray his long balls or stay in a double pivot position with Trent Alexander Arnold.

His defending capabilities rank in the top 10% in the Premier League and that would help Liverpool gain more cover.

Overall this seems like a great deal which just might end up happening if personal terms are agreed which doesn’t seem like a problem. It remains to be seen whether Liverpool will add one more name to the team before the deadline day or not…
