Chelsea’s 3-0 win over Wolves was a welcome jolt of momentum, but Enzo Maresca ended the night with three fitness checks on his mind. The head coach confirmed post-match that Moises Caicedo, Pedro Neto and Enzo Fernandez all reported issues during the game, placing their international plans under review.

Maresca’s summary was calm but clear. Caicedo took a kick to the knee yet finished the match. Neto felt a groin problem and asked to come off. Fernandez, who also came off, flagged ongoing knee pain and has already withdrawn from Argentina duty for the upcoming window. Chelsea will now assess the trio before any further calls are made.

“[Moises Caicedo] was OK, just a kick in his knee in the first half. He finished the game. I asked him after the game if he was OK,” Maresca said. “Pedro Neto and Enzo [Fernandez], they asked for a change because Pedro had a problem with his groin and Enzo had a problem with his knee. So we need to see how they are now.”

It was the one cloud over a strong result. Chelsea started slowly but grew into control, only for late fitness notes to shape the immediate agenda at Cobham.

Fernandez has already stepped back from Argentina selection to rest the knee issue. Neto’s situation will be monitored, with Portugal needing just a point to qualify for the World Cup—context that could favour caution. Caicedo, having completed the game, is currently expected to link up with Ecuador unless checks advise otherwise.

For Chelsea, the calculation is simple: protect medium-term availability. Two weeks of careful work at Cobham could prevent small problems from becoming larger ones as the season tightens.

Medical reviews come first, then calls to federations if plans need adjusting. Fernandez’s withdrawal is already confirmed. Neto awaits scan-led guidance after the groin complaint. Caicedo’s knee will be rechecked despite his strong finish.
