Vasco da Gama sound out Leeds’ Brazilian goalkeeper, and Torino are still unsure about his €16m option

Vasco da Gama have made an early approach for Lucas Perri, with the Rio club asking the Brazilian goalkeeper’s camp what it would take to bring him home in 2027.
The 28-year-old is still a Leeds United player, but he is spending this season on loan at Torino, and life in Serie A has not been smooth. He keeps his place in the side, yet his performances have drawn criticism in Italy.
According to SuperVasco, the club have already contacted Perri’s staff to find out the conditions of a possible move. There is no offer to Leeds and no formal negotiation at this stage. It is a first enquiry, nothing more.
Why are Vasco looking at Lucas Perri?
Vasco da Gama are mapping out goalkeeping options for the 2027 season, as they plan a squad overhaul under new ownership that is already looking at reinforcements in several positions. Perri, who stands 1.97m tall, is one of the names on that shortlist, although the club have not confirmed publicly that he is a target.
There is a twist for Vasco supporters. Perri made his name at Botafogo, their local rivals, before swapping Rio for Lyon in January 2024. His reputation in Brazil is still strong, even if his European career has been far more complicated.
What does it mean for Leeds?
Perri arrived at Elland Road from Lyon in 2025, expected to become first choice. It did not work out that way. He lost his place under Daniel Farke, and James Trafford was the man in goal again for today’s visit of Tottenham.
The loan to Torino was meant to be a fresh start and, ideally, the first step towards a permanent exit. The Italian side secured an option to buy when he joined in August, reportedly set at €16m (£13.4m), so Leeds already have a possible route to selling him next summer.
Whether Torino use it is another matter. Mistakes have kept attracting attention, and that is hardly the form that makes a €16m outlay look appealing. Vasco’s interest at least gives Leeds a second door if the Italians walk away.
Why the timing is awkward
The Brazilian season starts early in 2027, while Perri’s loan runs until the end of the European campaign. Any move before the summer would mean unpicking the Torino arrangement first, and there is still no sign of what Vasco would be prepared to pay.
Leeds have plenty else going on in the market, with the club linked with Monaco’s Denmark striker alongside Bournemouth. The goalkeeping question has come up before, too, most recently with the error that gifted Bournemouth a goal. Farke’s selection calls for this weekend were laid out in our Leeds predicted lineup vs Tottenham.
Will Lucas Perri leave Leeds for good in 2027?
For Leeds, this is welcome news, even at such an early stage. A goalkeeper who has lost his place is an expensive asset to carry, and having two clubs in two continents weighing up a permanent deal puts the Whites in a stronger position than a single option clause ever could.
Our view is simple: if Torino are not convinced by spring, Vasco become the obvious way out. A return to Rio, where he is still well regarded, may suit Perri better than another year of being questioned in Italy, and it would let Leeds recover a fee on a signing that never became the No.1 they hoped for.
