The Mac Allister transfer saga has a new chapter, with the Argentina midfielder reportedly looking for a way out of Anfield while Real Madrid keep a close eye on his situation.

Real Madrid have been linked with Alexis Mac Allister for many months. Now, according to Sacha Tavolieri, the 27-year-old is preparing to leave Liverpool, who have no intention of extending his contract and plan to invest “massively” in midfield.

He is under contract until June 2028, and in September he publicly admitted he was disappointed not to have been handed a new offer, while stressing his attachment to the club.

Why is a Mac Allister exit now on the cards?

The Argentine also revealed he had options to leave during the summer. The latest reports say he has told his representatives to find him a way out, whether that is La Liga, Serie A or even Saudi Arabia.

The timeline is the key. If Liverpool sign a new midfielder in 2027 and Mac Allister’s contract situation stays the same, the hierarchy could be forced to decide his future before he enters the final year of his deal. Our own look at the January midfield shortlist at Anfield shows the club are already planning for life with fresh faces in that area.

A sale next summer would also avoid his market value falling as the end of his contract approaches. There is no guarantee Liverpool will let him go, though. His importance in midfield and his experience at the highest level are arguments in his favour.

Can Real Madrid use the Mac Allister situation?

Mac Allister’s name has already circulated around Real Madrid in recent months, and his profile fits an identified need: more control in midfield, particularly against teams capable of putting the Spanish giants under pressure. They have been searching for that since the departures of Toni Kroos and Luka Modric.

The 2022 World Cup winner would not be a like-for-like replacement for either. Kroos excelled at managing tempo and long-range distribution, while Modric combined vision, ball carrying and the ability to escape pressure in tight spaces. Mac Allister offers a more hybrid profile: comfortable on the ball, able to defend going forward, win duels and support attacks.

Jude Bellingham, Federico Valverde, Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga already offer complementary qualities, but putting them together does not always guarantee control. Mac Allister could provide another solution in build-up play and in managing the quieter moments of a game.

Another Liverpool exit story with a Real Madrid link

It is not the first time this month that the two clubs have crossed paths. We have already covered the position Liverpool have reportedly taken on a Real Madrid defender’s Anfield return, and how both clubs are circling a Brighton teenage defender.

It remains to be seen what price Liverpool would accept, and what Real Madrid‘s real intentions are. At this stage no transfer is certain, but if the contract situation stays as it is, summer 2027 could offer a natural window.

Letting a World Cup winner run down his deal feels risky, but selling a year early is how the Reds protect the fee. If a replacement arrives in 2027, expect this one to move quickly.
