Manchester United‘s new manager, Ruben Amorim, faces immense pressure to bolster the squad before the 2025/26 Premier League season begins. Meanwhile, Chelsea has been actively reshaping their squad with several high-profile acquisitions. However, both Premier League clubs can now remove one prominent name from their transfer shortlists. Breaking reports from Fabrizio Romano indicate that Victor Osimhen future is finally resolved, ending a prolonged transfer saga.

According to Romano, Galatasaray has reached an agreement with Napoli for Victor Osimhen, worth £65 million. The Super Lig champions secured the deal after Osimhen’s impressive loan spell in Istanbul, where he scored 37 goals in 41 appearances.

Manchester United and Chelsea have both held long-term interest in Osimhen. However, with both clubs exploring alternative attacking options, Galatasaray capitalized to secure the Nigerian international’s permanent move.

The details of the agreement involve Galatasaray paying €40 million upfront and €35 million after one year. There’s also a 10% sell-on clause and goals-based bonus incentives. A clause prevents Victor Osimhen from being sold to any Italian club for two years.

Chelsea legend John Obi Mikel voiced his opinion that supporters would have welcomed Osimhen at Stamford Bridge. The 26-year-old striker has a proven track record of scoring goals and prioritizing a European career, rejecting lucrative offers from Saudi Arabia.

Enzo Maresca can remain satisfied with Chelsea’s transfer activity this summer. In contrast, Ruben Amorim might feel Manchester United missed a significant chance to sign a world-class goalscorer for Old Trafford.

Manchester United’s transfer strategy under scrutiny

Reports in April indicated that Manchester United had reservations about investing heavily in one player this summer. As a result, the club pursued alternative targets to Osimhen. But the Red Devils have since spent over £120 million on just two signings.

After extensive negotiations, Sir Jim Ratcliffe conceded to Brentford‘s demands and secured Bryan Mbeumo for £65 million. This came after Newcastle United expressed interest in Mbeumo’s teammate, Yoane Wissa.

Mbeumo offers proven Premier League experience, but for the same price, Man United could have secured a proven goalscorer in Osimhen. Only time will reveal if this decision proves costly for the club.

The drastic shift in transfer strategy over a short period raises concerns. Ruben Amorim faces numerous challenges in strengthening the Manchester United squad before their Premier League opener against Arsenal on August 17. Currently, the outlook appears uncertain.
