Brighton & Hove Albion’s obsession with the South American market has led them to Boca Juniors’s 19-year-old starlet Milton Delgado.
They are now expected to launch a summer move for the young defensive midfielder, as per South American publication Boca Noticias.
The Seagulls are eyeing talented youngsters who are showing immense potential worldwide. Delgado showed promising signs early in his career as he graduated from the world-renowned Buenos Aires outfit’s youth system before making his senior debut in March 2024.
He made 17 appearances last term, but his game time has reduced this season owing to his participation in the South American U20 Championship this year. He has collected four appearances and is expected to gather more minutes under manager Fernando Gago. As per the outlet, the management rates him highly and wants to help him develop even further.
After Boca Junior’s fifth straight win last weekend, Gavi praised Milton Delgado by saying:
“He’s coming from a lot of growth, both in football and personally. He’s in a good moment, in general. From a personal standpoint, from the level he competes at in each match, the level he shows in each match, it’s a very good situation for me, because I have the possibility of elevating the level of all the players in that position.”
Brighton & Hove Albion are also keeping tabs on the star midfielder and could show more excitement this summer. However, it is still unclear whether the Seagulls are ready to place a bid since Delgado’s contract runs until 2028.
It is said that Boca Juniors are planning for an extension, which might block this move. Brighton have enjoyed considerable success in signing South American talents.
Alexis Mac Allister, Julio Enciso, and Moises Caicedo have all been handed Premier League starts after moving to the Amex Stadium.
Delgado could be the next in the picture and yet another midfielder to make a name for himself in one of the toughest leagues in the world. His combative and aggressive style of play is perfect for the Premier League.
However, Brighton FC are not alone in this race, as MLS club Inter Miami are fond admirers of the teenager. Their new manager, Javier Mascherano, wants to bring in additional reinforcements to strengthen his squad.
Brighton’s pull is still expected to be greater than the MLS club. Young players like Delgado have received a proper stage to develop at the Amex Stadium, and hence, moving to the English titans makes sense.
