Leicester City will face Manchester United in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup at Old Trafford this evening.

The Red Devils have confirmed the departure of Erik Ten-Hag, with former striker Ruud Van Nistelrooy acting as the interim manager with a clash against Leicester his first test. Following a crushing defeat against rivals Nottingham Forest at home last week, Steve Cooper will likely heavily rotate the squad to ensure his key players are fresh against Ipswich Town.

Manchester United have a long list of absentees, with former Fox Harry Maguire, Antony, Leny Yoro, Luke Shaw, and Noussair Mazraoui all sidelined.

Hamza Choudhury, Patson Daka, and Jakub Stolarczyk remain unavailable as they recover from their long-term injuries. Cooper also confirmed that Victor Kristiansen’s injury will keep him on the sidelines for a week or two.

Despite the vast differences in riches and fame, Man United sit just one place above Leicester in the Premier League standings. The Red Devils are 14th in the league table, with the Foxes a position below. Following United’s disappointing start to their season, Erik Ten-Hag was sacked, with Sporting Lisbon’s Rúben Amorim rumoured to be his replacement.

Man United splashed a lot of cash in the summer window but the new signings are yet to deliver. It’s a similar case for Leicester, whose two most expensive summer purchases were benched in their 3-1 loss to Nottingham Forest.

With the Carabao Cup given the least importance of the three domestic competitions for English clubs, both managers will look at this fixture as an opportunity to experiment and refine their tactics. A new manager means a fresh start for every player in the team, and Van Nistelrooy is bound to make plenty of changes to the lineup as he looks to identify his strongest eleven.

Cooper’s tactics have been criticised lately, and with a crucial game against Ipswich coming up, he must use this game to sort out the various problems. While a victory is not a priority, beating United will be a good morale boost for the squad.
