Manchester City are reportedly eyeing a move for Tottenham Hotspur star Pedro Porro.
According to TEAMTALK, the reigning Premier League champions are keen on resigning their former player as the officials view him as a perfect fit for Pep Guardiola’s tactical system. The 25-year-old has emerged as one of the best right-backs in the league, and rumours suggest that City officials have already met with Porro’s agent.
Porro has been in fine form for Spurs this season. The Spaniard has been solid in defence and gets heavily involved at the other end of the pitch. Despite an expected assists (xA) of 1.23, the right-back has not recorded an assist yet, implying that his teammates’ finishing has let him down.
Tottenham Hotspur will consider selling Pedro Porro for the right price
Despite Porro’s importance to Spurs, reports suggest that the club are actually willing to sell him should Man City meet his asking price. However, there are disputes about what Tottenham consider a reasonable price for Porro. Football Insider claims that the Lilywhites value him at £80 million, while other reports have said that a bid of £60 million would be enough for Tottenham to sell Porro.
Man City are not the only club monitoring the right-back, with Spanish giants Real Madrid also eyeing him. Should Madrid fail to get their top target Trent Alexander-Arnold, they will shift focus to Porro. Dani Carvajal will be 33 years old when the season ends, and the Los Blancos may decide to replace him in the summer.
Tottenham’s supposed willingness to sell him for the right price is surprising. Porro is a quality right-back, and I doubt the team will be able to replace him with someone better. Additionally, the Spain international is the only recognised right-back in the team, with Archie Gray, traditionally a midfielder, acting as his deputy this season. While Spurs should try everything to keep him in North London, failing to qualify for the UEFA Champions League this season would make things very difficult. Tottenham are a team trying to win trophies and can’t sell their best players to their rivals without a better replacement lined up.
