The Guardian has identified Leicester City academy midfielder Louis Page as the top prospect at the club.

Each season, The Guardian releases a list called the ‘Next Generation’, consisting of some of the top youngsters playing for Premier League clubs. For each team, Guardian picks out the best player born between 1 September 2007 and 31 August 2008.

Sixteen-year-old Louis Page, who has been at Leicester since the age of nine, was chosen as the club’s top prospect. The midfielder is the son of Don Page, a forward who represented Rotherham United and Wigan Athletic in the late 1980s and early 90s. Despite being 16, Page recently debuted for the Leicester under-21s in their victory over Hull City. The midfielder had a good game and didn’t look out of place.

The Guardian described him as a technically ‘gifted’ box-to-box midfielder: “Page is a box-to-box midfielder who loves to run with the ball and penetrate the opposition box.”

“Technically, he is a gifted player, capable of manipulating and keeping the ball in tight areas. Physically, the sense is there is still more to come but Page has cemented a place in Leicester’s Under-18s, for whom he shone against West Ham, and is expected to push for regular game time in the under-21s.”

The Foxes have had a few talented academy graduates in recent years. Ben Chilwell, Harvey Barnes, and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall had good spells with Leicester before moving to bigger teams. Hamza Choudhury and Luke Thomas are still at the club, and the likes of Sammy Braybrooke, Ben Nelson, and Will Alves could be future stars for the Foxes.

The Leicester youth teams are doing reasonably well in their respective competitions. The under-21 team sit 9th out of 26 teams in the Premier League 2, while the under-18 teams are sixth in the Premier League U18 South Division (there are 13 teams).
