It’s international break, and with Leicester City next playing on October 19, it’s the perfect time to review the players’ performances this season. The Foxes got their first Premier League victory of the season against Bournemouth last week and sit 15th in the standings. Steve Cooper’s men have a three-point gap to the relegation zone and will look to extend it over the coming weeks.
Leicester have struggled defensively this season. They have faced 133 shots, the highest in the league, out of which 43 were on target. Despite the defensive vulnerabilities, Mads Hermansen has shined in goal for the Foxes. The Denmark international has made a joint league-high 33 saves, including 13 in one match.
Hermansen’s Post-Shot Expected Goals minus Goals Allowed (a metric which measures how many goals a keeper prevents with his saves) is 4.4, the highest in the league. He has produced some outstanding saves, many of which came in a single game against Arsenal. The 24-year-old almost single-handedly won the Foxes a point at the Emirates Stadium, making 13 saves (four of the shots were classified as a big chance). BBC pundit Troy Deeney called it “one of the best performances” he’s seen from a goalkeeper.

Hermansen was signed from Denmark last summer, costing the club a relatively low £5 million. The keeper was brought in by Enzo Maresca, who viewed his composure on the ball as a crucial element in his tactics. Hermansen has proved to be good in possession but has also turned out to be a fantastic keeper.
Fabrizio Romano confirms that Chelsea will not make bid for Mads Hermansen
Earlier during the transfer window, there were rumours that Maresca wanted to reunite with his former keeper at Chelsea. Thankfully, the London side did not make a bid, but the rumours have persisted, suggesting that Chelsea may make a move for Hermansen in January.
However, reputed journalist Fabrizio Romano stated that these rumours are false.
“Chelsea will not sign goalkeepers in January according to their current plan, so the information concerning Enzo Maresca moving for his Leicester keeper, Mads Hermansen, is false. They already have many in that position with Jorgensen, Sanchez, and also [Mike] Penders for the future. So, it’s already set for the goalkeepers future at Chelsea and I’m not aware of negotiations with any other GK in the market so far.” Romano said.
While Hermansen will surely be at the club till the end of the season, Leicester will need to avoid relegation and offer him a better contract if they want to keep him long-term.
