Ange Postecoglou has been operating like a puzzle master at Tottenham, and a crucial piece he’s eyeing is Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke. It almost feels like Daniel Levy handed Postecoglou a partially completed jigsaw puzzle, and the manager has been meticulously assembling the pieces to complete the picture.
Make no mistake – Spurs are far from a completed puzzle if we were to continue with the analogy. One missing piece that Postecoglou faces is that he still hasn’t managed to sign a replacement for Harry Kane. The Three Lions captain left the N17 and joined Bayern at the beginning of last season.
Postecoglou, being the smart tactician that he is quickly identified that whoever he signs would face an insurmountable task of replacing Harry Kane. The feeling of the club legend’s exit was still very fresh and the pressure could have dragged any new striker to the ground. Thus, the Aussie tactician managed with what he had and deployed Son Heung-min in that position, to decent effect.
However, going into another season without a natural number nine would be catastrophic for the club. Spurs will want to push for the top-four this season if not better and they need a natural goalscorer to do that. Could a former Liverpool forward come to their aid?
Dominic Solanke – the new number nine?
For very long, it seemed like Ivan Toney would be the chosen one to fill the number nine spot at the N17 this summer. However, over the past few days, Dominic Solanke has taken over that baton.
The Bournemouth striker is coming off his best season in the Premier League and at 26, he looks to be the finished product that he promised to be during his time at Liverpool. Despite not being the most prolific goalscorer throughout his career, Solanke has made leaps and bounds in this regard.

Being homegrown, Dominic Solanke will also help Tottenham meet the registration rules for the Premier League. Considering the number of players we sign from the Serie A, such a signing could end up helping us in a way that one would have never imagined. However, that is not the 26-year-old’s main job.
Would Dominic Solanke be able to replicate his Bournemouth form in a Tottenham shirt? Well, you can never say for sure. Spurs are doing the best they can by trying to sign a striker with a lot of potential. How his career at the N17 will pan out is anyone’s guess.
