Premier League Gameweek 3 brought us with a lot of insights, particularly when considering a substantial amount of data along with visual assessments from the preceding gameweeks. Hopefully, everyone had a successful FPL GW. Now, let’s analyze the events of each match in detail.
Chelsea 3 – 0 Luton Town
In a game that saw Chelsea finally play well, Raheem Sterling scored twice as Chelsea overcame early nerves.
And goal scorer turned provider minutes later when he crossed for Nicolas Jackson to knock in his first Chelsea goal and hand the hosts their first three-goal victory in the league since beating Wolves last October.
Moises Caicedo, fresh from conceding a penalty on his debut against West Ham showed more jitters on his first home start when he allowed Tahith Chong to dispossess him inside his own half. The Luton winger left his opponent on the turf and raced away before arcing a shot wide of goal to spare the blushes of Chelsea’s record buy.
Chelsea 3 – 0 Luton Town (Top Performers)
Raheem Sterling – 19 Points (Price 7M) – Mid – 2 goals and an assist and got all 3 BPS. Well done if you transferred him in. He is looking lively and more. Back to his dribbles where is uses his PnP well down that right side complemented with his fades at pace. Which means if someone tries to go too hard on him on the box, there might be high probability of pens.
Malo Gusto – 14 Points (Price 4M) – Def – 2 vital assists for the first two goals and got the clean sheet points, played the full 90 mins, surely, and complemented by that cheap price-tag of his – he’s the best transfer to make this week – but hold that thought… Reece James is on schedule to be back in the Gameweek 5 so where does that leave Gusto?
Nicolas Jackson – 7 Points (Price 7.1M) – Fwd – He looked lively again, could be so much better with anticipating in the box and a bit more clinical in front of the goal. Though the way Chelsea are playing is complemented by the fixtures they have – the goals should come for him.
Sheffield United 1 – 2 Manchester City
Manchester City moved on top of the EPL table with a 2-1 with over Sheffield United who were playing at home, Haaland put City ahead in the 2nd half and made amends for the missed penalty in the first. Sheffield canceled out the 1-0 lead and made it 1-1, but a brilliant striker by Rodri in the 88th minute put City in the lead and got them the 3 points.
Sheffield 1 – 2 Man City (Top Performers)
Rodrigo – 10 Points (Price 5.7M) – Mid – He is still a defense mid and by the rule of the thumb goes – you stay away from DMs as much as you could, with many other mids out there who can provide a higher xGA. But hold that thought – Rodri also happens to be City’s highest scoring player so far. He is getting into good spaces when he plays with Kovacic. Arrival of Nunes may change his playing dynamics though,
Jack Grealish – 7 points (Price 7.4M) – Mid – His best outing from FPL point-of-view thus far, but unless we know he’s nailed not yet worth a look in terms of our FPL teams. He was good everytime he got on ball and looked threatening with his crosses and movements.
Jayden Bogle – 7 points (Price 4.5M) – Def – Came in late in the game and scored a goal for Sheffield United.
Burnley 1 – 3 Aston Villa
A Matty Cash double inspired Aston Villa to an away win against Burnley, he opened the scoring in the 8th minute and then again in the 20th minute of the game.
Burnley tried and got the score to 1-2, but Aston Villa were too good for them, the scoreline ended 1-3 to Villa, but there really should have been more goals. From Villa Watkins, Diaby and Digne had very good outings but the star of the night was Matty Cash.
Burnley 1 – 3 Aston Villa (Top Performers)
Matty Cash – 17 points (Price 4.6M) – Def – A mega FPL haul for him and has seen a price increase of 0.1 already. Well done if you had him in your squad. He playing in an advanced position now and is worth a look in your FPL squad if you have a Gabriel issue to solve. Matty looks much like a right winger when Villa go ahead, same dynamics like we got at Chelsea with Chilwell on the left-flank. As an attacking unit – we could see much more come from him.
Moussa Diaby – 12 points Price 6.6M Mid – He’s now one of the best under 7M FPL assets and his fixtures will be very kind starting from GW8, maybe an Eze to Diaby transfer is a good prospect in GW-7 for now.
Foster – 7 Points Price 5M – Forward – Scored a late goal for Burnley.
Newcastle 1 – 2 Liverpool
Probably the game of the week, Anthony Gordan scored in the 25th minute, taking advantage of a big mistake by Liverpool’s defense, and went down to 10 men after VVD got a red card.
A substitution in the 77th minute of the game saw Darwin Nunez enter the game and score shortly thereafter, and with just a few minutes left netted the ball again to secure a 2-1 victory for Liverpool.
Earlier Trent Alexander-Arnold left himself walking a tightrope after picking up a needless sixth-minute booking for kicking the ball away, and he was perhaps fortunate to escape further punishment after Gordon went down under his challenge seconds later.
Newcastle 1 – 2 Liverpool (Top Performers)
Darwin Nunez – 11 Points (Price 7.3M) – Forward – We know he can be explosive, and showed us what he can do in a few minutes of play. He will share minutes with Jota so until he starts games – still not an FPL option. But we need to keep an eye on him, his moments in-front of goal have improved massively and finding the net in such occasions shall give him a massive boost of confidence. He is also learning under the tutelage of Marcelo Bielsa with Uruguay – so his game is bound is improve more post international break.
Anthony Gordan – 10 Points (Price 5.5M) – Mid – Scored the only goal for Newcastle and took Trent for a run all game, was finding spaces in the left flank all the time. Though he does have shared minutes with Harvey Barnes.
Becker and Salah – 5 points each – Both shared a 5-point haul, and both to be fair had good outings. Salah was not as monumental as you’d want him to be but he has some returns yet again. But with his highly anticipated move to Al-Ittihad you’d want to wait before getting him in.
Brighton & Hove Albion 1 – 3 West Ham United
Ward Prowse, Jarrod Bowen, and Michail Antonio got West Ham to a 3-0 lead on their away game this week. Played outstanding football, a rather weak performance from Brighton who got a consolation in the 81st minute from Pascal Gross. It was West Ham all the way in this game, a very one-sided affair.

Brighton 1 – 3 West Ham (Top Performers)
Jarrod Bowen – 12 Points – Price 7M – Mid – Had an excellent game from an FPL Point of View, with a goal and an assist. Could become an FPL option for later on in the season with West Ham fixtures improving, although many are already going for him donning the fact that he plays Luton Town in the next game week and the right-wingers have tended to do well in a couple of GWs against Luton.
Pascal Gross – 10 Points – Price 6.4M – Mid – Somehow managed a double-digit haul this week even after conceding 3 goals.
Michail Antonio – 7 Points – Price 6M – Forward – He’s normally a steady asset. Should be a target when West Ham has easy fixtures. His moments were excellent yet again, as they were against Chelsea.
Manchester United 3 – 2 Nottingham Forest
This game is another interesting game Nottingham Forest went up 2-0 before the 5th minute but Manchester United staged a brilliant comeback and won the game 3-2.
Eriksen started scoring for Man United with a Rashford assist, and later in the 2nd half Casemiro‘s goal, and finally Bruno Fernandes who featured with an assist and converted a penalty during the late stages of the game. Forest got 2 early goals, Awoniyi and Boly put them up, but could not hold on to the lead.
Manchester United 3 – 2 Nottingham Forest (Top Performers)
Bruno Fernandes – 12 Points (Price 8.5M) – Mid – Finally got a game where managers can be happy to hold on to him.
Eriksen – 9 Points (Price 5.9M) – Mid – Had a good game but not an FPL asset. Too many mids out there for now.
Gibbs-White – 8 Points (Price 5.9M) – Mid – His best game of the season. Again, someone we can ignore for now considering how influential Awoniyi has been infront of goal and with those utilisation of half-spaces he would continue to be so for Forest.
Everton 0 – 1 Wolves
Wolves substitute Sasa Kalajdzic scored a late winner two minutes after coming off the bench as Everton manager Sean Dyche’s decision to turn to some new faces produced a depressingly familiar outcome.
This was a game which saw 7 yellow cards. And the 0-0 deadlock ended in the 87th minute of the game.
Everton 0 – 1 Wolves (Top Performers)
Jose Sa – 11 Points (Price 5M) – GK – The highest-scoring goalkeeper of the week. He Had an excellent game, but you’d want to keep hold of transferring him in… many keepers out there who have a better clean-sheet probabilities.
Kilman – 8 Points (Price 4.5M) – Def – Another budget defender who had an excellent GW.
Neto – 7 Points (Price 5.5M) – Mid – Featured with an assist with the one goal of the game to secure himself a few points this week. I have been particularly impressed with Neto this season, he looks his Pre-ACL self with his acceleration, and movements.
Brentford 1 – 1 Crystal Palace
Normally a tough fixture Crystal Palace would be happy to come out of this with a Draw. Brentford opened the scoring in the 18th minute with a goal from K. Schade via a Norgaard assist.
An equalizer followed via a goal from Joachim Andersen to finish the game at 1-1.
Brentford 1 – 1 Crystal Palace (Top Performers)
Andersen – 11 Points (Price 4.6M) – Def – Another 4.5M defender who had mega GW. Palace have a decent run of fixtures, and he could be a differential to ponder upon.
Kevin Schade – 9 Points (Price 5.4M) – Mid – Scored the opening goal of the game. And went on to get a 9-point haul.
Ayew/Norgaard – 5 Points – Both players secured themselves 5 points each. Although there would be better options out there to consider for your FPL squad as of now.
Arsenal 2 – 2 Fulham
This game was probably the surprise game of the week, Andres Pereira opened for scoring for Fulham.
Arsenal replied and made it 1-1 when Bukayo Saka converted a penalty, and Eddie Nketiah put Arsenal in the lead in the 72nd minute. However, Joao Palhinha struck in the 87th minute to earn a shock 2-2 draw for Fulham at Arsenal.
Arsenal have a few issues in their squad now, will Gabriel Jesus play the next game? How does Havertz fit into this squad? Arteta has a few issues on his plate.
Arsenal 2 – 2 Fulham (Top Performers)
Palhinha – 10 Points – Price 5M – Mid – Struck the late goal and earn his team a draw. But he was more than that in the game, those links to Liverpool and Bayern Munich – his performance showed the basis to those.
Pereira – 8 Points – Price 5.5M – Mid – Opened the scoring of the game, but was subbed off in the 62nd minute with a slight knock. Didn’t do much after that goal though, which again was gifted by Arsenal.
Saka – 8 points – Price 8.7M – Mid – We now know he will still be on pens. Saka had an okay game. Surely from all Arsenal assets ATM. He’s clearly the best to hold.
AFC Bournemouth 0 – 2 Tottenham Hotspur
James Maddison opened his account for Tottenham before Dejan Kulusevski ended his goal drought to help the feelgood factor around Ange Postecoglou’s new-look team continue with a 2-0 win at Bournemouth.
Maddison had starred in last weekend’s fine victory over Manchester United, but was spotted on crutches and in a protective boot later that same night.
These are generally the easiest 3 points to take for most EPL team. Bournemouth have a weak defense. And Spurs put in a professional performance.
AFC Bournemouth 0 – 2 Tottenham (Top Performers)
Udogie – 12 Points (Price 4.6M) – Def – Assist, 3BPS and kept a clean sheet put in a great performance for his owners. Well done if you got him in your squad. He is getting ahead when Son inverts, a cheap option with a good probable attacking return.
Maddison – 10 Points (Price 7.7M) – Mid – Everything from Spurs is going through him ATM. And he’s just a must-have for now. He has more expected assists and goals than Raheem Sterling. Yes, Chelsea have better fixture in the short-run as compared to Spurs but in the long run, James Maddison is a must have. Everything that Tottenham do centrally flows through him.
Kulusevski – 8 points (Price 7M) – Mid – Had a good outing for his side this week. Not an option for FPL just yet.
