The Number 1 shirt is rarely looked upon while selecting the FPL squad. While goalkeepers are fairly priced because of FPL’s point system, it however is extremely important to pick the right duo in a bid to outcast our FPL nemesis.

Here are the best 3 Goalkeeper Pairs that we feel can give you an edge above the rest:

Brentford’s Mark Flekken (£4.5M) & Fulham’s Bernd Leno (£4.5)

Brentford are most like to let David Raya (the highest-scoring goalkeeper in FPL 2022/23) leave this summer and Mark Flekken is most likely to start every game. Fulham’s Bernd Leno was the second-best shot-saver last season and he, therefore, makes into our favourite list of Goalkeeper duo.

Brentford’s defence had proved their mettle last season and Flekken is a perfect candidate to step into Raya’s shoes. Their initial games promise a good bunch of clean sheets with the Bees hosting restructuring Tottenham in gameweek 1, followed by Fulham(A), Crystal Palace (H), and Bournemouth (H). A minimum of 2 clean sheets in the opening 4 games look extremely likely and make Flekken our most delicious choice.

To pair him up we have Leno with completely opposite prospects. The Fulham goalkeeper will have the toughest outings against Brentford, Manchester City, and Arsenal in the first month of the new Premier League season. Fulham’s only decent game is their first against Everton. Leno will be tasted inevitably against the sides with attacking prowess and thus makes it into our FPL squad as he will have more chances of saving goals.

Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale (£5.0M) & Crystal Palace’s Sam Johnstone (£4.5M)

Aaron Ramsdale is the favourite choice of Fantasy Managers till now and why wouldn’t he be. If you are also planning to get him, pairing him with Johnstone isn’t a bad option.

Arsenal have an easygoing opening fixtures with Nottingham Forest and Fulham travelling to the Emirates in Gameweek 1 and Gameweek 3 respectively. Arsenal travel to Crystal Palace in Gameweek 2 and we can thus expect 3 clean sheets for the Gunners.

Palace too face Sheffield United and Wolves in their first month where we can expect a clean sheet from Johnstone. The Palace goalkeeper will be tested abruptly against Arsenal in Gameweek 2 where he can give us bonus points with his saves.

Chelsea’s Kepa (£5.0 M) and West Ham’s Alphonse Areola (£4.0 M)

Kepa has been fans favourite when it comes to FPL. A strong shot-stopper in crunch moments and during penalties, Kepa is made for FPL.

Chelsea have their opening game of the season against Liverpool where a clean sheet may not but his saves will surely gift us points. Chelsea also face Nottingham Forest and Luton in their opening fixtures and a resurgent Pochettino squad would find it best to announce their improvement with clean sheets in these two games.

Areola at £4.0 million is the best buy at this range. West Ham improved exponentially well in defensive aspects during the latter stages and their opening game against Bournemouth as well as travel to Luton City in Gameweek 4 make Areola a keeper to consider.
