Barcelona are set to sign Wolves star and heart of the midfield Ruben Neves for a whopping £45 million. The Portuguese international has been linked with a move to Spain after the end of this campaign.
Although there is a conflict of interest within the club to sign Neves, he remains on top of the list to leave Wolverhampton for Blaugranas. The club wants him but Xavi doesn’t seem to be that interested. The former Barcelona player and the current manager wants to swing the money on Martin Zubimendi instead.
Wolves have agreed to let the midfielder go but for a minimum sum of £45 million. With Barcelona now being linked to Messi, spending a fairly good amount on Neves doesn’t make the utmost sense. But with Laporta one can never talk sense, can we?
According to the new reports, Wolves are not at all interested in a swap deal or a cash-plus-player deal. Previous speculations like Ansu Fati being involved in a cash-plus deal have been discarded with the youngster expressing his willingness to stay in Spain.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Neves will have to wait for a move to Barcelona as the club explores the European market. He also claimed that there seems to have reached an agreement between Barca and Neves where the player has confirmed his willingness to join the La Liga champions.
We know that Xavi is looking for a defensive midfielder after the exit of Sergio Busquets from the club and has therefore kept Ruben Neves at bay. The 26-year-old recently completed his 250th performance for the club and is now set for a new challenge having scored 30 goals in his tenure and providing 13 assists. Since 2017 he has been playing in England and has helped his club to stay away from relegation, including this season.
Well, he may be unlikely to make a move away from Wolverhampton but we can surely not discard the deal with Juan Laporta in the steering wheel. Only a few weeks’ time and we will know the future of the Wolves captain.
