Liverpool last played Europa League in 2015-2016 season where they defeated the monarchs of that league Sevilla and emerged as the champions. The Merseyside club has never failed to qualify for the Champions League under Jurgen Klopp. This stat seemed to be shattering until last month after the continuous lacklustre performance of Liverpool in the first half of the season. The Reds however have risen back to form but can still end up playing in the Europa League. The only team to help their cause is their arch-rivals Manchester City, ironical isn’t it.

Liverpool have bounced back tremendously well in the Premier League and haven’t lost a single game since their defeat to Manchester City on April 1st. The Reds stand 5th on the points table as of now with only one point behind Manchester United who however have played 1 game less than Klopp’s army. Newcastle and Manchester United both are likely to regain 3rd and 4th spot by the end of this season; leaving Liverpool with a meek chance to qualify for the Champions League.

While the Reds are on a winning momentum, Newcastle and Manchester have been losing points off late. While Eddie Howe’s team has given away 6 points in their last 5 games, Manchester United have been shady in their performance losing their last two games against Brighton and relegation-kissing West Ham.

Well, looking at the table we may say that Liverpool only have to get over either Manchester or Newcastle but that is not the case to be. Brighton poses an equal competition to the top 4 spot. Even though they are currently placed at the seventh position, they have played 3 lesser games than the rest and if they are to win all three, they will end up with 64 points in as many games as Liverpool who are currently standing at 5th position with 62 points.

The Reds have been a powerhouse in the champions league lately and to not feature next season will be a hard thing to digest for Klopp and the fans especially considering the last 2 months they have had. Liverpool have to continue their winning run and hope that either two of the three aforementioned teams finish under them on the table.
