Following a string of promising signings, Wolverhampton Wanderers seem keen on bolstering their squad for the future. According to the latest reports from Argentina, the 19-year-old Velez Sarsfield midfielder has attracted the interest of a couple of Premier League outfits, with Wolves the latest to register their interest in the player alongside Manchester City previously.
As per reliable Argentine journalist Cesar Luis Merlo, Wolves are said to be “negotiating” a deal for Perrone, with the player expected to only move ahead of next season after being loaned back to Velez for the ongoing campaign, provided a club secures his signing this summer. The latest development comes from Argentine publication Ole – stating sources at Velez – confirming the ‘informal contact’ from Wolves, adding, that the Premier League club are yet to submit an official bid for the youngster.
Perrone is said to have a release clause worth £8.4m in his contract valid until December 2023. According to the report published in Ole, Velez remain keen on not losing any players ahead of their Copa Libertadores’ semi-final clash against Flamengo this week. Although having spent only one full season in the Argentinian Championship, the defensive midfielder has established himself as a key part of Velez’s prospects for the new season, with the club expected to remain keen on retaining his services for the ongoing campaign ahead of granting him a move next summer.
A Supreme Talent
Having first made his mark in the U-16s representing the Argentina trophy-winning side at the 2019 Montaigu tournament, Perrone is said to have been on the books of Velez since the age of six. A deep-lying playmaker in the mould of Fernando Redondo, the youngster is renowned for orchestrating the game from midfield; earning him a regular spot in the starting line-up for Velez back in March, having made 17 league appearances alongside starting each of the 10 Libertadores games since.
Capable of playing as a sole anchor or part of a double-pivot in midfield, Perrone is said to be viewed as a “jewel” of the future for Argentine football. Able to dictate the tempo of the build-up during the first phase of play, the midfielder emerges as a composed and intelligent figure in possession, influenced by his excellent reading of the game, quick touches, and ability to resist the opposition’s press.
Moreover, owing to his constant scanning of the pitch, Perrone succeeds in carving out time and space to receive possession; helping the midfielder remain efficient in his passing, and allowing for a refreshing air of dynamism in Velez’s midfield. Progressive in his approach in possession, the midfielder’s technicality is further supplemented by his willingness to quickly transition from defence to attack, allowing him to utilize his intelligence of movement in occupying advanced areas of the pitch.
Although, at times, defensively passive, the midfielder’s best attributes lie in possession, painting him as a young midfielder well-rounded in most aspects of the game alongside boasting leadership qualities having captained the club during senior outings over the season.

Verdict
Having played a pivotal role in Velez’s journey towards the Copa Libertadores semi-finals, the midfielder emerges as a promising talent capable of taking the next step in this career. With Wolves likely to need reinforcements in midfield next summer, Perrone is likely to be developed under a promising manager in Bruno Lage’s provided the Premier League club secures his services for the future before the end of this year’s summer transfer window.
