The best coach
Pep Guardiola has guided Manchester City to another Premier League title, their third title in four seasons. In addition, the Catalan coach was voted coach of the year in the league by his peers. This is the second time in four years that the former Barca coach has won the award. New faces
Brentford’s 2-0 win over Swansea means they are the third Championship club to be promoted to the Premier League next season. This is the first time they have been promoted to the top flight. Brentford scorers Toney and Marcondes thus joined Norwich City and Watford in the Premier League. They had not been in the English top-flight since 1947.

Familiar faces leaving
At the ripe old age of 73, Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson has decided to retire from any Premier League role, although he did not say whether this was his professional retirement. “After more than 45 years as a manager, I have decided that the time has come for me to leave the grind of Premier League football, so our last two games (of the season) will also be my last as Crystal Palace manager,” the former Three Lions boss said in a statement.
Innovative statistics next year
The world’s most-watched championship is announcing “revolutionary” statistics during match broadcasts from the 2021-2022 season. These include “the probability of the team in possession scoring a goal in the next 10 seconds”. Specifically, three types of “new” statistics will be exposed, “average formation”, “live win probability” and “momentum tracking”. “This last category of information measures the probability that the team in possession of the ball will score a goal in the next 10 seconds” by exploiting a live history of thousands of games compared to the last five actions of the team in possession of the ball (passes, dribbles, tackles, etc.).
The “average formation” will describe how a team positions itself when winning and losing the ball. Finally, the probability of a team winning or drawing will be calculated “by simulating the rest of the match 100,000 times” by drawing on “four years of match data” and comparing it to the events of the match: home or away game, current score, penalties awarded, players on the field, red cards and… time left to play.
