Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira has been identified as a possible transfer target for Italian outfit Fiorentina ahead of the 2020/21 campaign.

The 24-year-old has failed to make himself an important figure in the Arsenal first team since arriving at the club in July 2018 from Sampdoria.

And his struggles in the Premier League could see him depart the club before the transfer deadline day in October.

According to reports from Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport, Fiorentina are interested in bringing back to Italy this summer as they look to improve upon their performances next season. The publication also adds that the Serie A side are locked in negotiations with the Gunners as they are keen on the services of the player before starting their season. The outlet also refuses to specify whether Fiorentina are negotiating directly with the Premier League side or are trying to reach an agreement through the player’s entourage.

Torreira looks to be out of manager Mikel Arteta’s plans considering the midfielders that are being linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium his summer.

During the 2019/20 season, the Uruguay international made 39 appearances for the north London outfit but his minutes could be limited next season should he continue at the next season.

He was involved in two goals in the Premier League in 17 starts during the 2019/20 campaign, making a further 12 appearances off the bench as Arsenal finished the season eight on the league table.

Torreira still has three years left on his current deal at the Emirates Stadium which is expected to run until the summer of 2023. A return back to Italy has not been ruled out, with top Italian sides said to be monitoring his current situation in England, and could pounce on a deal should they identify the need to.

Roma are also said to be interested in the midfielder who made 71 appearances in the Serie A for Sampdoria.
