Chelsea’s in-form French forward Olivier Giroud has been in great form after the Premier league resumed.
Unlike in the early season, Giroud was able to win the manager’s trust through his consistent goal poaching. He started virtually in all the matches leading to the end of last campaign, as he was favoured over Tammy Abraham who had an impressive early season performances.
Albeit Tammy Abraham and Olivier Giroud’s performances, Chelsea still went ahead to sign Leipzig forward Timo Werner, who contributed to over 45 goals across all competitions last season for the Bundesliga outfit.
Louis Saha believes that Chelsea forward Olivier Giroud will be undaunted by the signing of Timo Werner, claiming “we will hear about him again” next campaign.
“Olivier Giroud is a very tough cookie and he will not worry too much about the arrival of Timo Werner at Chelsea,” Saha said on the Football Index Podcast. “Giroud wants to score and he wants to help his teammates. He is a competitor and wherever he is, he will always perform. Giroud is very motivated and I’m sure that next year we will hear about him again.”
“I think he is very underrated. He was criticised when he arrived at Arsenal because people would compare him to stylish players like Thierry Henry or Dennis Bergkamp, but he’s a different player and he scores goals for every club he plays for.”
His finesse flicks, one touch passes, positioning and finishing are part of his great qualities which has seen him succeeding at Chelsea.
With Chelsea signing Timo Werner, it doesn’t look easy (in terms of quality) for the Frenchman to usurp Werner and claim a regular starting berth, but he could be a great backup to the Germany international player next season.
