According to Sport Witness, Turkish side Besiktas are interested in signing Arsenal’s academy graduate Reiss Nelson on a season long loan deal.
The 20-year-old winger has made little impact at Arsenal since returning from his loan spell at Hoffeinham and has being on the fringes of Mikel Arteta’s first-team squad last season.
Nelson scored his only league goal of the season against Liverpool, in 17 appearances. He seems to have lost his spark, confidence and grit, compared to his fellow academy graduates such as Willock, Maitland-Niles, Eddie Nketiah and Bukayo Saka who have been given some minutes in the first team and has impressed when called upon.
Nicolas Pepe have being the preferred choice on the right wing, while Aubameyang have being the undisputed starter on the left wing where he has been able to score 22 league goals last campaign.
The emergence and form of Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli has pushed Nelson further down the pecking order. Not to talk of the imminent signing of Willian, who is reported to have had his medical at London Colney yesterday.
Besiktas have being in good connection with Arsenal, as they’ve been able to sign Mohamed Elneny on a season long loan deal for 2019/2020 campaign, which makes a deal for Nelson looking more feasible.
Though Arteta is reportedly not keen for Nelson to leave this summer, but a season long loan spell at Besiktas might be what he needs to bring back his confidence and resurrect his dwindling career.
