Sokratis Papastathopoulos plans to see his contract at Arsenal, the 32-year-old have been reportedly told that he won’t be a part of Mikel Arteta’s plans next season, however, that hasn’t warranted the Greek defender to reconsider his plans of staying at Arsenal.
Sokratis’ agent, Konstantinos Farras is quoted saying: “He [Sokratis] will stay. I don’t see a reason to leave. I don’t know why everyone is writing wrong and fake news.”
Arsenal are locked in some tough negotiations with Atletico Madrid for long term target Thomas Partey, however, the reports have now emerged stating about Arsenal’s interest in Roma’s Amadou Diawara, who is seen as the backup to Thomas Partey, if the move for the Ghanian international does not materialise.
The Gunners reportedly values Diawara at €25 million. However, the Italian outfit is expected to hold out for at least €30m.
Their initial approach for Thomas Partey has been rejected by Atletico Madrid as the Gunners reportedly offered €25m plus a player, who is understood to be Arsenal outcast Matteo Guendouzi. The Spanish outfit have demanded Arsenal to pay Thomas Partey’s release clause if they wanted to sign the player.
Mesut Ozil’s agent Erkut Sogut has confirmed that the German was planning to see out his current contract at Arsenal which runs till 2021. An important player under Arsene Wenger, Mesut Ozil has seen playing time hard to come by under Unai Emery and Mikel Arteta. The 31-year-old has reportedly been frozen out in order to shift him and particularly his hefty wages out of the club.
The Athletic’s David Ornstein has reported about Arsenal’s plans to put Rob Holding, Shkodran Mustafi and Sokratis Papastathopoulos up for sale in this transfer window as the Gunners are looking to cut short on defensive numbers before bringing in some much-needed reinforcements to the club.
