Sheffield United will play their third match since English football resumed with a trip to Old Trafford, with both teams aspiring for European qualifications.
Their reverse game against Manchester United saw a dramatic 3-3 draw at the Bramall Lane, with John Fleck, Lys Mousset and Oliver McBurnie all on target for Chris Wilders’s side.
The Blades have played two games since resuming league action and have secured just a point out of a possible six points.
Going into the game against the Red Devils, Wilder would be worried about injury and suspension issues, with John Egan ruled out on Wednesday clash due to suspension.
Dean Henderson is bound to also be sidelined due to the terms of his loan deal from the red half of Manchester. Jack O’Connell missed out on the last two games through injury and he is likely to be ruled out as well.
However, Wilder will be expected to replace the suspended Egan with Phil Jagielka who is now fit following an ankle injury, and stopper Simon Moore will obviously start in post against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side just like the reverse game.
Considering the worries and ambitions of Wilder’s Sheffield team going up against United, this could be how he would lineup in the usual 3-5-2 formation.
Goalkeeper
Earlier stated, with Henderson unable to make an appearance against his parent club, Simon Moore will be able to start in post for Wilder’s team.
The English international has started in just a single game for Sheffield this season, that is the previous game against Solsjkaer’s men.
Throughout the 90 minutes he has enjoyed, Moore has conceded three goals and has averaged 3.0 goal conceded per game.
However, the former Cardiff goalkeeper will be hoping to improve in post this time around against a dangerous United attack.
Defenders
With the suspension of John Egan in their woeful defeat against Newcastle United, Phil Jagielka will be back into the defensive line to partner Jack Robinson and Chris Basham.
Jagielka has featured in four games in the league so far this season, starting just one and has kept no clean sheets, but he compliments the defense quite well.
Basham on the other hand, has started in all 30 league games he has played for Sheffield and kept 11 clean sheets.
Robinson as well has played two league games and kept a single clean sheet. The trio will need to improve their partnership to prevent any threats from Solsjkaer’s attackers
Midfielders
Sheffield have hardly rotated their squad in the midfield area and will highly maintain similar faces against United.
Enda Stevens, John Fleck, Oliver Norwood, John Lundstram and George Baldock are possibly the five men to partner in the middle part of the game.
They have a been involved in 24 goals and assists this season and have been undoubtedly crucial for Sheffield in their recent campaign as Wilder’s side are potentially European contenders.
Forwards
Lys Mousset and David McGoldrick are highly to be favoured attackers to get the nod over Billy Sharp and Oliver McBurnie on Wednesday night, just like the previous encounter.
The partnership of Sharp and McBurnie have been poor since the league resumed, as there have been no goals created out of their partnership which they lost one and drew one.
Mousset and McGoldrick will be given a chance once again to display similar performance against the Red Devils.
