Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson has urged his side to put aside complacency and return to playing the league with all seriousness in order to clinch the title in style.
The Reds take the trip to Goodison Park to play Everton in the Merseyside derby as their first game on Sunday June 21, and could walk away with the title should Manchester City suffer a setback in their game against Arsenal on Wednesday.
Speaking to Liverpool FC Magazine, said: “We need to be prepared. We need to be raring to go and not get caught cold coming out of the blocks.
“There’s still a lot of work to do and a job to be done. Although we’re in a very good position, I still feel that we have got to perform at a high level and finish the season off well. We are still very focused and very determined.”
Jurgen Klopp has said he expects his side to play as if they are yet to reach their targets even after winning the league.
Leading City with 25 points, the Reds are two wins away from securing a first league title in 30 years and that could come as early as Sunday should the Citizens lose on Wednesday.
The Liverpool skipper also warned his side to adapt to playing behind closed doors and keep the swearing down.
“We’ve got to adapt to that situation and try to keep the swearing down to a minimum!” said Henderson. “I’m more worried about my language when I’m playing! I don’t want to be having to apologise to everybody after every single game so I need to be careful, especially in the heat of the game.
“I’m sure the manager will have to be careful with his language as well. But he’ll also know we can’t blame the crowd for not being able to hear what he’s saying at certain times of the game.”
Henderson also insisted that his side will play with great intensity despite the lack of fans expected.
He said: “For the players it will be different playing in a big game in a stadium where there’s no crowd because you can hear everybody talking…but we have to embrace it and have the right mindset.”
