Former Chelsea midfielder Michael Ballack believes that if Timo Werner ends up signing for the Blues, it would suit both sides. Werner has agreed on personal terms with Chelsea and negotiations on the club level are going on.
Former Chelsea and German midfielder Michael Ballack spent four seasons at Chelsea and won five trophies with the Blues – Premier League (2010), FA Cup (2009 & 2010), League Cup (2007) and Community Shield (2009). He was also part of the Chelsea side that reached the Champions League final in 2008.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Timo Werner and his agent have agreed on personal terms with Chelsea and Chelsea are preparing for an offer. But yesterday, RB Leipzig denied receiving any bid from London. Ballack has backed his fellow countryman to taste success in the Premier League.
“I think it’s a good decision for both sides. For Timo, because he fits there, because the way [Chelsea] play football suits him,” the former Germany midfielder explained to Sky.
“I think that in Chelsea he has decided on a club where he has a better chance of playing, which is very important to him.
“The team will be renewed, it will certainly be strengthened and a lot of money will be spent in Chelsea to knock again at the top. A good young team is being built there, which is very promising.”
Ballack also advised the 24-year-old about the physicality of the Premier League and said that the forward will need some time to adapt to his new life. He also added that Werner is a quick learner and he will ‘get used to it’.
“That is the biggest difference in England that there is less whistling (from referees), especially for strikers,” he added.
“It is much more intense, with a lot more duels. He has to get used to it quickly because that’s the point.
“He is a robust player, is very fast, but he is also physically good in a duel and he will quickly get used to it.”
Timo Werner has scored 25 goals in Bundesliga, four more than his best-ever Bundesliga campaign. This has made him one of the hottest prospects in Europe.
