Manchester United are ready to dish out a whooping £49 million to hijack Real Madrid’s move for Ajax midfielder Donny Van de Beek, according to reports.
The 23-year-old has been a target for both clubs for some time now since his breakthrough into the Ajax first team. Van de Beek was also instrumental in the Dutch side’s run to the Champions League semi-final last season.
His numbers of over 40 games for Erik ten Hag’s side has seen him draw comparisons with Chelsea manager Frank Lampard.
Madrid were reported to have reached a verbal agreement with the high scoring midfielder but could be set to put their pursuit on hold amid the dangers from the coronavirus pandemic.
This is however set to play in the favor of the Red Devils who are willing to take advantage of the La Liga club’s challenge.
Man United are looking to snap up the 23-year-old for next season as they continue their rebuilding process after a frustrating time post Alex Ferguson era.
Edwin Van der Sar, who serves as Ajax’s chief executive revealed the player would be allowed to leave this summer if he wants too, while adding that he wouldn’t be on the market for a discount.
However, Ed Woodward is willing to offer £49 million to see the player swap the Johan Cruyff Arena for Old Trafford.
The relationship between the Van der Sar and Manchester United could see the club poach the Dutch midfielder.
