Tottenham signed Timo Werner from RB Leipzig to provide cover on the flanks as well as intend to be a cover upfront. While the loan move was seen with skeptical eyes by many owing to Timo’s underwhelming time at Chelsea, Spurs are getting a different performer who has proven he has what it takes to succeed in the Premier League.

Timo Werner’s role under coach Marco Rose at RB Leipzig as a left forward in Marco Rose’s system meant he was able to influence the final 3rd activity of Leipzig well, and that ensured halfspace threat, a player that could operate at a great level at the most important of the 5 vertical spaces on the pitch. Ange Postecoglou continued to use Werner on the left-hand side with an intent to influence with his runs, intelligence to drop into half-spaces, and replicate forward runs to be on the end of defence breaking vertical passes.

Werner is also a hard worker off the ball and the fact that he is getting more and more confident about his abilities can help Tottenham go a long way.

MUST READ – Timo Werner to Spurs: The most interesting transfer this winter?

2 goals and 2 assists in 7 games is a decent tally but when you start looking into it, Werner has influenced games with his blistering pace complemented by his counter-pressing and understanding of Ange Postecoglou’s system while selflessly understanding his team-mates. You would reckon he is still getting into the top sharpness and confidence as Tottenham Hotspur have an opportunity to make his loan move a permanent one for £14 million which in the current market is a bargain.

We should see better of Timo Werner with every passing game as he builds his confidence and the fact that his versatility can help in-game tactical changes along with providing cover for multiple positions adds to the reasons to sign him on a permanent deal.

The season is still long and as we go into the business end of it, Timo Werner can have a massive influence on Ange Postecoglou’s bid for a top-four finish.
