Premier League is hanging around the corner and with only one month left for yet another much awaited season, fantasy managers have woken up. The Fantasy price of players was announced recently and while there are a few obvious expensive buys in Harry Kane, Mohamad Salah, Erling Haaland, and Marcus Rashford who will be there in over 3/4th of Fantasy teams, the miserly buys will be made for the defenders like every other FPL season.
We will make your headache a little softer and help you choose the top 5 mid-range defenders who will not only be easy on your pocket but also helpful to your points.
Ben White (£5.5 Million)
Ben White for £5.5 Million should be a no brainer. It’s unbelievable how the Arsenal full-back has been priced so cheaply after having an illustrious last season. The English international scored 156 points last season and was the second-ranked defender in FPL after Trippier with 198 points.
His place in Arsenal’s defence is brick solid and we can expect him to outperform himself from last season.
Ben White will rarely miss any game this season and the 25-year-old will be instrumental in Arsenal’s attack as well. Averaging 4.1 points per game last season, White scored 2 goals and assisted 5, helping his tally of FPL in the process.
Ben Mee (£5.0 Million)
The 33-year-old left-back was fifth highest scoring defender last season and a protagonist in Brentford’s breakthrough performance. Averaging 3.9 points per game, Mee earned 11 bonus points while also registering 3 goals and two assists under his belt.
Bee is an enticing option as Brentford’s defence is hard to break and has the potential to garner clean sheets frequently. The Bees registered 12 clean sheets last season thanks to high-profile performances from Mee and Raya.
Pervis Estupinan (£5.0 Million)
With 1 goal and 7 assists in last season’s Premier League, Pervis Estupinan is our standout full-back for FPL. Even Brighton’s first three opening fixtures are comparatively easier and we can expect him to provide an assist or two against Luton Town, Wolves, and West Ham.
The youngster accumulated 3.7 points per match last season and took his tally to a total of 128 points. He can be a sure-shot buy if you are considering a cheaper alternative to someone like Trent Alexander Arnold.
Gabriel Magalhaes (£5.0 Million)
White’s partner in crime, Gabriel Magalhaes was one of the top-scoring defenders from last season in his price range and Arsenal’s second-best after £5.5 million FPL priced Ben White. The Brazilian registered a whopping 146 points last season and finished fourth on the list of FPL defenders.
Not only is he strong defensively but a lethal weapon in front of goal as well during set pieces. He has scored 5 goals in 35 appearances for the Gunners and we can expect him gifting us a few offensive points as well in our FPL team.
Arsenal have great first three opening fixtures and we can expect the duo to do the scoring.
Luke Shaw (£5.5 million)
The cornerstone of Manchester United’s defence and their third-highest FPL scorer after Rashford and Bruno, Luke Shaw was excellent last season. The attacking full-back registered 124 points as Manchester United finished with the most clean sheets (17).
The signing of Mason Mount only promises Shaw’s increase of interference in the attacking third and lot of time under the ball. Shaw scored 2 goals and provided 5 assists last season, averaging 4.0 points per game.
