Xabi Alonso is a Spanish head coach who took over at Chelsea on 1 July 2026. As a midfielder he won the Champions League with Liverpool and the World Cup and two European Championships with Spain, and he also played for Real Sociedad, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, learning from several elite coaches along the way.
His coaching rise was swift. At Bayer Leverkusen he ended Bayern’s long hold on the Bundesliga and led the club through an unbeaten league season in 2023-24, before a spell in charge of Real Madrid. Alonso favours fluid positional play, sharp rotations in midfield and teams that control matches through the ball.
Premier League News Now covers his time at Stamford Bridge in depth. This page brings together the latest Chelsea news, transfer rumours, injury updates and analysis of how Alonso is shaping a new look side in West London, with fresh reports as the season goes on.
