  • West ham and how they can improve this season

West ham and how they can improve this season

West ham is that team which seems to have the potential to be in the top half of the table and at least compete with some of the big boys but for some reason find themselves in a relegation battle for most of the time.

David Moyes has had his ups and downs in the Premier League. Still, he is certainly more than capable of assembling a side that can go toe to toe with some of the teams in the top half of the table, but he and the board haven’t always seemed to see eye to eye on a lot of things, and that is more than evident in recent times.

Let us take a look at some of the places where West Ham can improve as a team. One of the problem areas indeed has to be the backline. They have leaked out goals on numerous occasions and have lost from winning position more times than can be counted.

Seeing that this board is not overly enthusiastic on spending the big bucks accompanied by the severe downfall due to the COVID crisis one of the signings they could go after is Ozan Kaback, the young 20-year-old Turkish defender who is currently plying his trade at Schalke.

At the young age of 20, he has a lot of potential to develop but has also been courted by a few of the bigger teams in Europe.

Another great option would be the Brentford centre back Pontus Jansson. He may not be the youngest at the age of 29, but he can certainly bring a certain level of calmness and composure that has been missing in the West Ham backline for the last couple of seasons.

His play from the back and defensive solidity will undoubtedly help him adapt to the kind of football that David Moyes is trying to create at West Ham.

The midfield is also another place where they could certainly make some smart recruitment’s, but they don’t have to be that urgent and more of a future development thing because Declan Rice may very well leave in the next few seasons if not already and at the age of 33 Mark Noble is certainly not getting any younger.

Sasa Zdjelar of Partizan Belgrade can be a great addition to the squad as he brings a lot of versatility to the squad. He is mainly a defensive midfielder but is great on the ball and has also been used as a progressive midfielder throughout the last season.

While Bakayoko may be a significant risk and John Lundstram a big shot, I feel that they could help David Moyes accomplish great things without having too many resources to depend upon.

While the position of centre forward seems cemented and the likes of Mikel Antonio putting on a few good displays, I feel that someone who is more of a target man could be a suitable backup replacement which may help Moyes play his fast and direct style of football.

Wout Weghorst from Wolfsburg is an out and out target man who likes to get on the end of balls and crosses, but at the age of 28, I’m not really sure if he is willing to be in the shadows of someone like Mikel Antonio.

This brings us to our next option which is the 20-year-old youngster Ilya Shkurin who plays for CSKA Moscow. A young prospect with 10 non-penalty goals in under 1400 minutes is a great start and can develop his game further in a more competitive league.

English Premier League 2020/21: Top Four Preview & Betting Odds

As European competition wraps up their schedule for the 2019/20 season, fans are now focusing on next season’s domestic action. Reigning EPL champions Liverpool roll into the new season as second-favourites, but why isn’t the defending title holders pitted as the best team in the league?

Manchester City Favourites to Win the Title

Pep Guardiola and his incredibly talented squad of players suffered a plethora of injuries heading into last season, and the inconsistency on the pitch shone through.

Eighteen points shy of 1st placed Liverpool in last season’s table was far from the board expectations, but given the surrounding drama, I think Manchester as a club wants to put last season behind them.

Threatened with a two-year suspension and a ban from UEFA left an uncertainty at the club, such allegations would leave City as an undesirable football team to play for. But after the bans were lifted, a sign of relief reflected on the opinions of the bookmaker.

To the casual football viewer/gambler it may come as a surprise that Liverpool is second-favourite to defend their crown next season, but it took the club thirty years to achieve last season’s triumphant title win. Expecting Liverpool to win next year’s season is a tough ask, especially after their dramatic decline in performance heading towards the end of the season.

With little to zero transfer signings for Liverpool this summer, it’s no surprise they’re second-favourites to collect the EPL title.

Finishing with ninety-nine points (eighteen ahead of 2nd place Manchester City) and combined 196 points from Jurgen Klopp’s previous two seasons at Liverpool, It’s evident that Klopp is happy enough with the squad he’s created and has confidence they’re able to repeat the same successes of 2019/2020.

    The Red Devils Re-Build

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is slowly but surely placing the puzzle pieces of his Manchester United squad in the correct places.

The second half of last season was exceptional for United; their fourteen final fixtures avoided defeat entirely, managing to steal the third-place position at the end of the season.

Much like their rivals City, the red half of Manchester is expected to be very active in the transfer window. United are currently chasing Jadon Sancho, although we should note that signing a winger isn’t in the best interest of United’s current squad. I wouldn’t be opposed to focusing their spending elsewhere on the pitch.

    Chelsea Make Power Moves

Another active manager in the transfer window is Blues boss Frank Lampard. His London side has forged a fearsome attack force, where the back four has a lot to be desired.

Once known for their defensive prowess, Chelsea’s defensive structure has become a former shell of its old self. With that said, Chelsea’s star signing Timo Werner has landed himself as a favourite for next season’s top goal scorer – hardly a defensive move, but a strong one nevertheless.

Outside of the top-four favourites, it will be interesting to see how well Mikel Arteta can attack the English Premier League with a full season under his belt. Joining Arsenal midway through last season was a positive for the North London side, and maybe Arteta can make them contenders once again.

There’s always a strong case for the opposite end of London and Tottenham Hotspur, as 50/1 to capture EPL silverware it wouldn’t be crazy to think one of next season’s favourite goal scorers Harry Kane could accomplish glory with his side.

  • Juventus to beat Premier League clubs to McKennie signing

Juventus to beat Premier League clubs to McKennie signing

Italian side Juventus look set to beat Premier League outfits for the signature of Schalke 04 midfielder Weston McKennie this summer.

Southampton, Everton, Aston Villa, Newcastle United and West Ham United were all reported to be interested in signing the US International from the German club.

With the Saints touted as heavy favourites for the player’s signature having held talks with his entourage over a move to the Premier League.

However, according to ace journalist Fabrizio Romano, Andrea Pirlo’s side are edging ever closer to sealing a move for the 21-year-old.

Fabrizio reports that the Serie A champions are very close to agreeing a deal which will see the player move to the Allianz Stadium on an initial loan spell for the 2020/21 season with an option to buy next summer.

90min reported yesterday that Schalke were hoping to spark a bidding war between the interested parties for the services of the midfielder as they look to ease off some of their financial challenges, but the latest claim Juve are in pole position to land McKennie.

The player’s profile suits that of one who would have made a big impact in the Premeir League, having excelled during his time in German Bundesliga.

At age 21, McKennie has already been used in three seasons for Schalke since his Bundesliga debut during the 2016/17 campaign.

He scored three times in the just ended season in the league as his side failed to secure a top half finish, ending the season in the 12th position.

The interested English clubs will have to turn elsewhere for re-enforcement if the report from Fabrizio Romano is to be believed.

Ralph Hasenhuttl’s team are in the market for a central midfielder having sanctioned the sale of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to Tottenham Hotspur earlier this month.

While West Ham are said to be considering an alternative should they lose any of their midfield options.

  • Crystal Palace set to complete Eberechi Eze signing

Crystal Palace set to complete Eberechi Eze signing

Crystal Palace are reportedly on the verge of sealing the siging of Queens Park Rangers winger Eberechi Eze this summer.

The youngster has been the subject of interest from many top flight clubs with Fulham, West Ham United and West Bromwich Albion all said to be interested in his services.

However, the Telegraph are reporting that Roy Hodgson’s side have had a £19.5 million bid accepted for the Queens Park Rangers talisman. The publication also adds that the winger is expected to finalise personal terms with the Premier League side and undergo his medical to make the switch official in the coming days.

Palace are expected to add the England under-21 star to their ranks for the upcoming season as thy look to improve their finish last season.

Eze proved to be one of the exciting talents to watch during the 2019/20 Sky Bet Championship campaign, with his impressive performances for QPR. Adding him Palace’s team at the Selhurst Park would be a great coup for the Premier League side for the 2020/21 Premier League campaign.

He was left out of the matchday squad for Saturday afternoon’s friendly with AFC Wimbledon, with the club keen to avoid putting him in an awkward position amid Premier League interest.

Speaking to Sky Sports News after Saturday’s 3-0 win at Loftus Road, manager Mark Warburton indicated Eze would only leave QPR if the club’s valuation was met.

“Any situation for any player is resolved when the value of a player is met, that’s how you resolve a situation,” Warburton said. “You make sure the value is appropriate, the value is correct, and when that value is met we wish everyone the best of luck going forward. That’s the way it is at QPR. Right now if it is not reached then he’s a QPR player. As long as we pay the wages, he’s one of ours.”

The 22-year-old netted 14 times for Rangers in 46 appearances in the Championship and added a further eight assists as the finished 17th on the league table.

  • West Ham preparing to lay-off injury prone Jack Wilshere

West Ham preparing to lay-off injury prone Jack Wilshere

The Times report that West Ham are working to lay-off Jack Wilshere who is currently earning a whooping sum of £100,000 per-week wages.

Wilshere’s fitness problem has continued to mere his football career with the Hammers, as he’s started just six games in two seasons.

West Ham’s former manager Manuel Pellegrini’s decision to hand Wilshere a three-year deal has led to a regret and the club are preparing to cut their losses soon.

The former Arsenal and Hale End academy graduate joined (West Ham) his boyhood club in 2018, after failing to get a contract extension at Arsenal.

The England international announced his intention to leave Arsenal at the end of his contract in 2018 summer, so as to get a fresh start elsewhere.

Since joining the Hammers, Wilshere has been restricted to just 16 appearance for the club. His injury woes doesn’t seems to be over for the once heralded as future England international captain.

Wilshere will be out of contract next summer and the club are now hoping to find a buyer for the England international player. The club are also prepared to subsidise a move or preferably buy out the remaining one-year of his contract.

The 28-year-old midfielder’s career looks to be coming to an end sooner than expected, as the former Arsenal player will be without a club if his contract is eventually terminated by the Hammers.

It’s left to be seen if Jack Wilshere will consider retiring from football and venture into a coaching career or give his active football career the last chance elsewhere next season.

  • Lazio preparing a reunion with Felipe Anderson

According to reports from The Sun, West Ham United versatile player Felipe Anderson is urging for a move away from the London club this summer regarding his lack of game time and adaptation into David Moyes’ system.

The Brazilian playmaker has suddenly fallen down the pecking order since David Moyes took over the managerial position, starting just 20 Premier League games last season.

Considering his struggle for game-time, Anderson is now ready to take up a new challenge next season amid an interest from Arsenal.

Going by the new development, Daily Star are reporting that Lazio are preparing to switch their attentions back to Felipe Anderson, who had previously played at the Stadio Olimpico before moving to England in a £36million deal in July 2018.

    Embed from Getty Images

With both Arsenal and Lazio making an enquiry about his availability, the possibility of his departure is looking more likely this summer.

The Brazilian has enormous talent to excel at any top club but unfortunately, that hasn’t being the case since he joined the Hammers. Anderson seems to have been unlucky with the style of play being deployed by Manuel Pellegrini, which has seen him struggling to impose himself in games.

Anderson is a renowned gifted midfielder, who’s blessed with ball control, pace, quick feet and excellent ability to manoeuvre his way out of tight position.

His vision and ability to hit a powerful shot with either foot despite being a natural right-footed player, makes him a very dangerous player around the box.

The Brazilian have credited his development as a well-rounded player to his five-year stint in Serie A, which has made him so versatile and capable of playing in different positions.

Considering his successful five-year spell at Lazio, a reunion at the Serie A outfit will undoubtedly be a tempting move for the Brazilian, especially now that his career looks to be dwindling.

Arsenal considering move for Felipe Anderson

According to @ExWHUemployee, Arsenal have shown an interest in West Ham United winger Felipe Anderson, who is ‘likely to be a back up option’.

Edu Gasper is said to be a huge fan of the player and has recommended him for the Brazilian national team on numerous occasions.

Anderson could easily play as an attacking midfielder or as a winger. He’s a renowned technically gifted player with a diminutive but long-limbed physique. He is predominately known for his pace, ball control, quick feet and excellent dribbling skills which allows him to beat his opponents effortlessly.

With some years of experience in the Italian league, he has been able to develop tactically, which has made him a well-rounded and versatile player, capable of playing in different positions.

Due to his wide range of skills and ability to create and score goals, Anderson has been used as a central midfield playmaker, though he’s been more productive as either a winger or an attacking midfielder as he’s blessed with a powerful and accurate with either foot despite being naturally right-footed.

Mikel Arteta is renowned to be a good trainer, capable of improving his players as in reference to Raheem Sterling, Leroy Sane and the likes, which he has been able to influence their game when he was an assistant manager alongside Manchester City’s manager Pep Guardiola.

With the transfer window still on till October, Arsenal might decide to submit an offer for the Hammers’ diminutive winger, if their priority target fails to be finalised.

Chelsea Transfer Roundup: Foster Targeted, Dunk Linked, Rice Update
