In Ndombele’s absence, Spurs are expected to start with a midfield pivot of Harry Winks and Moussa Sissoko, who have both featured in Tottenham’s two Premier League games so far.

Premier League 2019/20: Gameweek 2 Review

The new season of the Premier League is well into gear, with the second round of 2019/20 matches having been played. Only two teams maintained 100% starts to the new season. Liverpool and Arsenal are the only two teams to have maximum points after two games. While, newly-promoted Sheffield United and Norwich City registered their first wins.

Matchday 2 begun with Arsenal winning by 2 goals to 1 against Burnley. Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang both scored as the Gunners took maximum points again after last week’s victory at Newcastle United.

A Teemu Pukki hat-trick at Carrow Road secured all 3 points for Norwich City against Newcastle United. The Magpies pulled one back late in the game through Jonjo Shelvey, but Steve Bruce’s men looked far from convincing after two games.

Liverpool kicked off their campaign having eased to a 4-1 win at home to Norwich, followed that up with a 2-1 win at Southampton to sit pretty at the top of the table. Sadio Mane scored the opening goal with Roberto Firmino scoring second before Adrian’s error handed Danny Ings a late consolation.

At Etihad Stadium, the game against Spurs, the super-sub Lucas Moura came into the pitch and in only 22 seconds of his arrival slotted a high-flying header through Ederson to earn Tottenham Hotspur a hard-fought 2-2 draw against defending champions, Manchester City.

Raheem Sterling’s goal in the 20th minute was cancelled out by Erik Lamela just after three minutes. Aguero restored City’s lead before half-time, but a tactical change by Mauricio Pochettino saw Moura score just 19 seconds after coming on. The Champions got their return on attack in 92nd minute of the game but the goal by Gabriel Jesus was disallowed by VAR. A reminiscent of what had happened in April in the Champions League.

Frank Lampard’s quest for a first competitive win as Chelsea boss continues, after his side were held to a one-all draw at Stamford Bridge by Leicester City. Wilfred Ndidi’s header, 27 minutes into the second half brought the match leveled after an early goal by Mason Mount, ensuring that both teams settled for a point each.

The Blues, as well as the Foxes continue to search for a first win after losing and drawing their opening games respectively.

A sublime curling goal from Ruben Neves in the second half against Manchester United meant that, Wolves are now unbeaten in their last three games at home against the Red Devils. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side took the lead through Anthony Martial in the 27th minute after a lovely quick-pass exchange between Luke Shaw and Marcus Rashford.

Wolves got rewarded for their constant-pressing after the recess, as Neves finished off Joao Moutinho’s excellent pass. Pogba failed to convert from the spot after being brought down by Conor Coady in the box, with Rui Patricio diving to save the effort.

    Here are the results from the Premier League Matchday 2;

    Arsenal 2-1 Burnley
    Aston Villa 1-2 Bournemouth
    Brighton 1-1 West Ham
    Everton 1-0 Watford
    Norwich 3-1 Newcastle
    Southampton 1-2 Liverpool
    Manchester City 2-2 Tottenham Hotspur
    Sheffield United 1-0 Crystal Palace
    Chelsea 1-1 Leicester
    Wolves 1-1 Manchester United

Premier League 2019/20: Gameweek 1 wrap up

The Premier League campaign returns this weekend with all 20 top-flight teams in action between Friday and Sunday. Liverpool and newly promoted Norwich City kicked-off  the Premier League season.

Mohammed Salah was involved in two goals against newly promoted side after Grant Hanley’s own goal became the first goal to be scored in this year’s edition.

Virgil Van Dijk and Divock Origi were also on the score sheet as Teemu Pukki also found the back of the net. Pukki’s goal did less harm to Liverpool as it was just a consolation goal in a 4-1 drubbing by the Reds.

At the London Stadium, it was all ruthless as the hattrick from Raheem Sterling, a goal from Gabriel Jesus and a Kun Aguero penalty against West Ham ensured that, Pep Guardiola’s side started the season on high.

Manchester City, who started the game without Aguero found the Londoners easy to beat after the recess with four second half goal.

At Turf Moor, Burnley put three unanswered goals past Southampton. A brace from Ashley Barnes and a goal from Johann Gudmundsson made sure Sean Dyche’s men were the victors.

Southampton were unable to get a consolation goal after making more efforts, as Burnley won the match 3-0 after full time.

The game between Crystal Palace and Everton produced the first red card of the 2019/20 Premier League season. Morgan Schneiderlin was sent off after picking up a second yellow card with 14 minutes to go.

Playing against a 10-man Everton, Crystal Palace were unable to punish the Toffees, with the game ending in a goalless draw.

Manchester United played Chelsea in what was the most exciting game of matchday 1. A double from Marcus Rashford and one each from Anthony Martial and Daniel James were enough to start Frank Lampard’s Chelsea managerial chapter on the low.

Chelsea, who had Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount in their starting eleven, saw a lot of chances go begging in both halves as they were unable to take them. Ole’s side punished them and went on to hammer them with four goals without a reply.

    Here’s the results collated from all match centres after the first gameweek;

    Liverpool 4-1 Norwich City
    West Ham 0-5 Manchester City
Watford 0-3 Brighton and Hove Albion
    Crystal Palace 0-0 Everton
    Burnley 3-0 Southampton
    Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 Aston Villa
    Newcastle United 0-1 Arsenal
    Leicester City 0-0 Wolverhampton Wanderers
    Manchester United 4-0 Chelsea

  • Newcastle submit €18m offer for OGC Nice winger

Newcastle submit €18m offer for OGC Nice winger

Newcastle United have made a fresh bid for OGC Nice winger Allan Saint-Maximin as they look to strengthen their team for the upcoming season. Reportedly, Newcastle have submitted a €18m offer for young French international.

Maximin enjoyed his best season at Nice, which saw him score six goals and further layoff three assists for the club.

Newcastle earlier already seen £14m bid rejected for the 22-year-old winger but are keen to sign him. RMC Sport state that Newcastle have not been deterred by this, and they have now submitted an improved offer of €18m (£16m) to try and tempt the Ligue 1 side to part ways with one of their most exciting talents.

However, Nice are keen to sell the player for atleast €20m and it remains to be seen if the clubs agrees to sell the player.

Maximin helped Nice to achieve 7th place in Bundesliga last season and would be a great addition to the Magpies team. The French international can play on both the wings and it his versatility that the club are desperate to bring.

The Magpies are also linked with a move for Southampton’s Charlie Austin and Preston North End defender Ben Davies as the club prepare to continue life after the departure of Manager Rafa Benitez.

  • How do Newcastle United live life after Rafa Benitez?

How do Newcastle United live life after Rafa Benitez?

    Manager: Steve Bruce

    Star Player: Joelinton

The summer so far has been more dramatic for Newcastle United compared to the whole of the 2018/19 season. Rafa Benitez has left his post as the gaffer of the club move to China, Salomon Rondon and Ayoze Perez have also departed the club, with the former going back to his parent club, West Brom after a successful loan before linking up again with Benítez after joining the Chinese Super League club Dalian Yifang, and the latter joining Premier League rivals Leicester City.

The Magpies finished 13th in the league last season, nine points separating them and relegated Cardiff City. Though they had a period of bad results, Benitez was able to steady the ship and ensured their safety.

Newcastle United shipped in 48 goals only, and that was due to the performances of Martin Dubravka, Jamaal Lascelles, Ciaran Clark, Paul Dummett, and Fabian Schar – who all had decent seasons. The fact that defending was not left for the defence alone was another reason behind Benitez’s side conceding just 48 goals.

It was a delight to watch as the Magpies had quality and quickfire attackers upfront, though the gaffer had problems. Matt Ritchie, a versatile player notched eight assists and scoring only two in 36 appearances.

Salomon Rondon who racked up 12 goals, and Perez who also got 11, will be difficult to replace but Joelinton joining the club in a club record deal, he may be that player who holds a vaguely similar profile.

Unless huge decisions are taken within the course of the summer transfer window, the possibility of Bruce’s men finishing in the top half looks unlikely considering the fact that other mid-table clubs are investing heavily in their respective teams with just two weeks until the start of the 2019/20 season.

Can Steve Bruce guide the Magpies into a top half finish?

Newcastle new manager Steve Bruce said: “The kid has got an exciting time ahead of him. He is a smashing young player and we are obviously delighted to get him. It is been going on for a little bit now, so to get him is great for everybody.

“He has got everything that a modern-day player wants. He is big, strong and athletic, and of course he’s got age on his side too which is vitally important.”

Manchester United set to complete £25m Move for Newcastle’s Sean Longstaff

Manchester United are said to finalize the transfer of Newcastle United’s Sean Longstaff as the club look to cut their expenses.

Longstaff broke into the Newcastle team last season and since became a regular in the side delivering some impressive performances. However his knee injury in March saw the player spend the rest of the season recovering from it.

Man United have been keen to sign the 21-year-old midfielder since the inception of the transfer window and were touted as the favorites to sign the player.

United Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer views Longstaff as an essential component as he aims to rebuild and the team for the upcoming season.

Recently Longstaff expressed his desire to stay at the club stating, “I’m massively flattered to have my name even mentioned in those conversations, but I’m 100 per cent focused on Newcastle.

“I’ve always wanted to play for Newcastle and Ive only had a little taste of that so for me, its about getting fit as soon as I can and getting back on the pitch for Newcastle and making more memories of the future.”

But The Daily Star claim that United and Newcastle have reached an agreement for the player for a fee of £25m and the deal will be announced before the inception of the pre-season in July.

Newcastle United and Rafa Benitez are struck in contract talks for sometime now and very little progress is been made and the time is running out for Mike Ashley & Co. and a compromise should soon be made of both the parties are to continue this bond beyond this month.

However, Rafa has not given up the hopes yet and privately still feels that a deal can be struck despite limited time available.
