Liverpool are said to have signified their interest in 27-years-old, Brazil international defender Diego Carlos, whose performance in his first season for his Spanish club Sevilla has enthralled some big clubs across Europe, most notably Liverpool.
The Brazilian born defender, who signed for Sevilla FC in May 2019 from French club Nantes has impactfully made an 24 appearances in all competitions for Sevilla. Since his arrival at Sevilla, Diego has seamlessly slot into the defense with commanding performances, which has helped his club to a third place position in the league.
Diego Carlos is known to be an indirect set-piece threat; who likes to play long balls; plays the ball off the ground often and clears the ball out of defence often. He has impressively makes an average of 4.9 clearances per game and 1.2 tackles per game this season. He has 82.3% successful passes so far, which shows he’s very comfortable with the ball at his feet. Standing at 6ft 1in, he has been able to win 60% successful aerial duals.
For Liverpool, Diego Carlos is believed to be a more capable partner for their ever reliable Dutch defender Van Dijk and they are now said to be exploring the option of bringing him to Anfield as Dejan Lovren looks more likely to leave the club at the end of the season, after fallen down the pecking order under Jurgen Klopp in the last two seasons and the 30-year-old has unceremoniously made 14 appearances so far this campaign.
Liverpool would definitely still need to fight for his signature, as he had already impressed the likes of Real Madrid and the boss Zinedine Zidane is believed to have an eyes on Diego Carlos, whom he sees as an ideal long-term replacement for Sergio Ramos.
With Diego Carlos’ exit clause standing at €75m, Liverpool could once again make another huge statement in the transfer market by spending big on their defense, as they’ve done in signing Van Dijk from Southampton.
