Manchester United midfielder Andreas Pereira has always dreamed of wearing the Santos shirt and the club’s president Jose Carlos Peres has confirmed their interest in the 24-year-old Brazilian.
Pereira almost moved abroad on a permanent deal after exhausting his loan deal with Valencia but after talks with then United coach Jose Mourinho, the player decided to prolong his stay at the Theatre of Dreams in an attempt to make a name for himself.
Despite his increasing efforts to survive at the club, the Brazil international has struggled to get a permanent spot in the team with the arrival of Bruno Fernandes making it worse, as he has been pushed further down the pecking order.
However, Pereira has contributed to two goals and provided four assists in 37 games in all competitions this season and had not been involved in the last three games the Red Devils played before the halting of the campaign.
Having struggled go nail down a starting spot, now could be the perfect time to player to make the switch to his boyhood club and the Santos president has fueled the speculations.
“I have Andreas Pereira on WhatsApp and I have been talking to him,” Jose Carlos Perestold Gazeta Esportiva.
“He’s done well at Manchester United. He will certainly wear the club’s shirt one day.”
Although Pereira is determined to fight for a position under manger Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, it will be “perfect and ideal” for him to depart as United is set to sign two or three midfielders in the summer transfer.
