Pau Torres, 23-year-old Spanish central-defender, who plays for La Liga club Villarreal, rose from their youth ranks and became a mainstay with the first team.
Standing at 6ft 3in and left-footed, Pau has the stature and style to ape Pique’s presence, which has led to him been dubbed the next Gerard Pique. His physique combined with the classic traits of a Spanish centre-back as comfortable on the ball as he is going against opponents makes him an attractive choice.
After a successful loan move at Malaga during 2018/2019 season, he came back to his parent club with fight and determination to get into Villarreal’s first-team, which he has successfully done so far.
His rise to stardom coupled with his consistency in form has seen him called-up to the Spanish national team after playing few amount of games earlier this season. His invitation to the national team was seen as a surprise to many due to lack of experience at top level but the potential which he had showed in few top flight games for Villarreal proved to have convinced the then Spanish coach Moreno to hand Pau (Torres) his premier call-up.
With ex-Aresenal star Cazorla been impressed with the young defense marshal and rumoured to have recommended the young prodigy to his former club (Arsenal), the latest revelation seems to be a boost for Arsenal’s hope of landing the young ‘Pique’.
Pau Torres recently reviewed to El Periodico Mediterraneo, where he revealed that he’s currently taking English lessons. This revelation has come at a time where an indication of such magnitude wouldn’t be easily ignored by the Arsenal lovers.
With the uncertainty surrounding Sokratis and Mustafi’s future at Arsenal, the hopeful incoming of Pau Torres will definitely be a good replacement for the ageing and inconsistent defenders.
