Olivier Giroud did all he could to leave Chelsea in January transfer window, in a winter run up which involved the likes of Inter Milan, Lazio, Lyon and Arsenal‘s arch-rivals Tottenham. Despite all the potential places he could land up, Giroud was forced to stay at the Stamford Bridge beyond January.
Inter Milan manager Antonio Conte wanted the Frenchman to lead the line alongside Romelu Lukaku, in his title chasing squad for the second half of the 2019/20 campaign. Though with failure to get on common terms with Chelsea, Inter Milan moved for likes of Ashley Young and Christian Eriksen.
Giroud ended up staying at Chelsea despite late interests from Lazio & Tottenham, as the Blues were unable to find a replacement good enough to let go of Oli’s services.
Though, his fortunes then changed…
Frank Lampard gave Giroud more chances, doing well in those – Giroud kept Chelsea’s first-choice Tammy Abraham on bench for the better part of the second half of the season. And with his contract with Chelsea up at the end of June, a summer exit was been thought lively.
Lately there have been suggestions that Giroud could renew his contract with Chelsea beyond summer and continue at the Stamford Bridge.
Vincenzo Morabito, an Italian agent who was working on getting Giroud to Lazio/Inter last winter and who is still connected to the Word-cup winner – insists that Olivier could stay at Chelsea and renew his contract with the Blues.
Speaking to Calciomercato.it, Morabito said: “Giroud was an opportunity in January but now, given that the championships could also be played in June and July, he could decide to stay (renewing the contract) at Chelsea for another year.
“However, everything is still uncertain, given the general situation which, in my opinion, may have cleared up in a few weeks, between the end of April and the beginning of May the picture could be more complete.”
