Manchester United youngster Charlie Wellens is rewarded with a professional contract with the club.

The club are preparing professional contracts for some of the academy’s graduates and former youth teamer has claimed his son is set to sign an extension.

Wellens has reported put pen to paper on a two-year deal with the Red Devils having enjoyed an impressive campaign with the club’s Under-18 side prior to the cancellation of the season.

The 17-year-old has been involved in all four games the side have played in the FA Youth Cup where they have progressed to face Chelsea in the semi-final.

Wellens plays as a central midfielder and has been one of the brightest performers throughout the season for Nick Cox side.

Richie Wellens, father of Charlie, who also came through the academy rank at Man United could not hide his expression to see his son commit to a new deal at the club, confirming it through a tweet.

“Twenty-three years ago I signed my first professional contract at the biggest club in the world,” Wellens tweeted. “To say I’m proud to see Charlie sign his is an understatement. Well done mate it’s only the start but you deserve.”

A step in the right direction this may seem but United are also working to get Angel Gomes, who has been linked with Chelsea, to sign an extension too.
