After missing out on William Saliba last summer, Leicester City are acting swiftly this time as they target Saint-Etienne Wesley Fofana.
The nineteen year old has been impressing for Etienne this season, being the leading name when it comes to interceptions & the second most on the aerial duels in the Ligue 1.
Fofana is a high jumper, which has proved to be a pricey asset to Étienne, as he is not only good at using it in the open play but also from the dead balls offensively as well as defensively. His jumping abilities complemented by how he outcasts opponents physically in the air, it actually becomes difficult to win in the air against him. Well realistically, you can’t win in the air against someone who jumps to a point where their knees end up on height of opponent’ head.
Alongside his intercepting abilities, Wesley has also imposed impressive tackling methods especially when his is covering for full-backs out wide. Thanks to his agility & speed that it doesn’t take him long to be where the ball is. Well, Fofana is someone aggressive from the back trying to close down every attack.
With his overall skills and abilities – its difficult to beat him one-on-one unless you get him down on the wrong foot.
Brendan Rodgers side aren’t the only ones targeting Wesley Fofana with the likes of RB Leipzig & AC Milan also targeting the Frenchman.
The Foxes are been linked to ample of centre backs this week, it looks like Rodgers is looking to bring in a long term partner to Soyuncu. And highly rated in France, Fofana could prove to be a valuable addition to the squad.
But Fofana isn’t all good, he is nineteen – you’d expect to find things where he can improve. His aggressive approach could land his team into trouble with either losing the ball too easily or getting in positions higher up the pitch. He also loves to carry the ball forward like Mustafi, and if under pressure he could end up making the wrong pass more than often.
That’s where Brendan Rodgers comes in as he has a good track record of developing youngesters at Swansea, Liverpool and Celtic.
Though, former Leicester City manager Claude Puel is incharge of Saint-Etienne and it remains to be seen whether the Portuguese would sanction a sale to his former employers.
It won’t be a problem for Leicester to get better of likes of AC Milan and RB Leipzig, as a prospect of playing in the Premier League would sound tempting than going to either of Italy or Germany.
And Wesley Fofana will also be fancying a chance to improve under Rodgers, it’s now to be seen whether both the club’s could agree on a fee – or Leicester would miss out on one of highly rated French prospects from Saint-Etienne once again.
