Lille centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes has reportedly completed his medical ahead of a summer move to Arsenal in the coming days.
Magalhaes has been subject of interest from the Premier League sides following an impressive 2019/20 with the French outfit before their season was brought to a premature close.
Considering the high interest in the 22-year-old, Mikel Arteta’s side are moving swiftly to secure the player’s signature and get him to N5.
Manchester United, Everton and Napoli are all said to be keen on acquiring the services of the player this summer but Arsenal seem to have the upper hand now.
Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City are two others clubs who have been credited with an interest in the young, though there has been nothing concrete from both parties just yet.
The Times are reporting that the Italian side are not giving up on the defender yet, but with medical said to have been completed, Napoli would almost have to look elsewhere for an alternative – which could ironically be Arsenal veteran Sokratis.
Having already signed Nicolas Pepe from Lille last summer, the north London outfit are poised to have a good relationship with the Ligue 1 side and that could possible play things into their favour.
Arsenal are looking to make quite a number of changes at the club this summer and Magalhaes’ arrival could spell limited opportunities for some of the current defenders at the club.
Callum Chambers and Rob Holding are two likely players who could be heading towards the exit at the Emirates Stadium, while Sokratis is rumoured to be in negotiations with Italian clubs already.
Their sales could generate funds for Arteta’s team as they are still in the market for a midfielder as well as at least an attacker to join their ranks too.
Magalhaes is believed to be worth £22 million and his signing could be a step in the right direction for the Gunners.
