FPL 2021/22: Gameweek 27 – Midfielders

FPL-fantasy-premier-league-gw27-midfielders-watchlist

Just as we were all relishing in the glory of Mohamed Salah’s performance in DGW-26, particularly those of us who triple captained him, the FPL comes up blank for the Reds. It’s not just Liverpool who are out of action; Chelsea (again) and Arsenal (again) are also out. Burnley, on the other hand, is making up for lost time with a mini-double against Crystal Palace and Leicester City.

Keeping these fixtures in mind, let us have a look at the best midfielders when it comes to Fantasy Premier League for Gameweek 27.

BRUNO FERNANDES (£11.7M) [WAT, (H)]

After a poor start to the season, the Portuguese has lately ramped up his game. He has nine goals and six assists on the season, with 25 shots in the box and an xG of 6.40. He’s also made 86 Chances, which have an xA of 8.54. (2nd overall).

Manchester United host Watford at Old Trafford in one of the best games of Blank Gameweek 27. With an xGC of 41.0, the Hornets have yielded 43 goals, which ranks them 17th in the league. United will be heavy contenders for this one due to Watford’s terrible defensive record.

The Red Devils have 44 goals (5th) and a 45.2 xG (4th) and have been efficient in the final third. It’s no shock, given the number of offensive talents on their team. Right now, Bruno Fernandes appears to be the best alternative. He has the most Goal Involvement (37%) on his team and can both score and assist. He’s also the joint highest scorer (with Ronaldo) with nine goals.

Bruno takes a lot of set-pieces, which means he has a lot of chances to score. He’ll have plenty of opportunities to score or assist in this game, and he’s also deserving of the captain’s armband.

HEUNG-MIN SON (£10.7M) [LEE, (A)]

This season, Heung-Min Son has been incredibly reliable. In only 20 starts for Spurs, he has nine goals and seven assists. The South Korean has a total of 31 Shots in the Box with an xG of 8.20 and 47 Chances with an xA of 5.58.

Tottenham will face Leeds United at Elland Road in Blank Gameweek 27. From an attacking standpoint, this is a perfect matchup for them.

With an xGC of 44.0, Marcelo Bielsa’s club has permitted 50 goals, ranking 19th (19th). Only bottom-placed Norwich have worse defensive performance than them and given their gung-ho offensive style, I don’t expect them to improve much.

Spurs have scored 31 goals this season, with an xG of 38.5 (6th), and have a formidable offence led by Son, Harry Kane (£12.2 million), and new acquisition Dejan Kulusevski (£6.0 million).

This is a fantastic matchup for Son, who excels against attacking clubs who leave themselves vulnerable at the back. The Korean has a habit of exposing this with his speed, as evidenced by his two assists against Manchester City the previous gameweek.

He also plays a lot of set pieces, particularly corners, thus he has a lot of opportunities to strike. In both real-life and FPL, the offensive midfielder has been their greatest player this season, with a Goal Involvement of 57 per cent (1st among his squad) in the games he has played.

RIYAD MAHREZ (£8.7M) [EVE, (A)]

Riyad Mahrez has also had a strong season with the Citizens, scoring eight goals and providing five assists. He has 27 shots in the box with an xG of 6.71 and 35 chances created with an xA of 4.05.

The Algerian has only started ten games, but he is certainly an effective player when he is on the field.

Mahrez could start this game because he has been playing well and was not part of the starting lineup that lost to Spurs last Gameweek. Guardiola has a habit of starting his players who are performing well, and he hasn’t made many mistakes this season.

City also looked much better when Mahrez stepped in against Tottenham Hotspur, and he scored a goal.

Additionally, as previously stated, City has a fantastic matchup against an out-of-sorts Everton side. Mahrez also leads his side in points per game (9) and is the first choice penalty taker.
