Everton are looking to beat arch rivals Liverpool in the race to sign Joe Gelhardt.

As per multiple reports, Everton are keen on signing the Wigan Athletic youngster. The 17-year-old has been one of the emerging talents this season for Wigan in the Championship. He has been a regular for the Championship side despite scoring only one goal.

Gelhardt has also managed to take the Wigan U18’s to the FA Youth Cup semi finals. His stellar performances at the under 18 level and great cameos in the senior side has made him one of the hottest young prospects in England, leading many clubs to be interested in him.

Liverpool had been linked with Gelhardt earlier this season, however it seems that their rivals Everton are considering a serious move for the youngster. The Toffees would be keen on snatching this opportunity, and given that Gelhardt was born on the Merseyside, he could be open to a move back to his hometown.

Everton has been a club where youngsters like Wayne Rooney, Ross Barkley, John Stones and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have showed their talent and developed into Premier League stars. This might interest Gelhardt to choose Everton over any other clubs.

A young player always want to get minutes under his belt, and Gelhardt would get that at Goodinson Park. However, the same cannot be guaranteed if he joins Liverpool or any other Premier League giant and then, he might have to spend time at various clubs on loan, which doesn’t always work out.

Meaning that Everton are the perfect club for Gelhardt if he wants to make a move to the Premier League and showcase his talent at the biggest stage.
