Thomas Tuchel could be reunited with one of his previous players as PSG’s Marco Verratti is on Chelsea’s radar for the upcoming summer transfer window. There have been reports suggesting that Tuchel has demanded the Chelsea board for the 28-year-old Italian as he starts to plan his team for the next season.
Tuchel’s excellent run at Chelsea has definitely guaranteed his stay at the west side of London much longer than what many expected. Also, the Chelsea board seems very happy with the services of the German coach and are ready to back him heavily in the upcoming transfer window. Now many players are being linked to potentially move to the Blues but a name standing out of all is Marco Verratti.
Marco Verratti has played under Tuchel during the German manager’s spell in Paris. Since his PSG days, Thomas has been vocal about his love for Verratti and a reunion in England will be something that makes Tuchel happiest. Verratti, over years, has established himself as one of the most technically gifted players and a perfect midfielder. He has won titles for the French side and has made his name in world football for his game with the ball in his feet. Not just an excellent dribbler, Verratti also has the vision to pick the most difficult of passes helping his team spreading the play. Also, the Italian is keen to play in England once and thus a move to Stamford Bridge satisfies all parties.
Chelsea currently plays with a double pivot where Kante, Jorginho, Kovacic, and Gilmour have been playing regularly with Mason Mount sometimes fulfilling the role. The addition of Verrattii certainly means recruitment of a World Class player and strengthening of the side but Chelsea needs to make space before acquiring his service.
Kante and Kovacic complement each other very well and none of them seems droppable. Jorginho has been one of the unsung heroes for Tuchel this season as Chelsea look to conquer Europe. Lately, Thomas has been trusting Billy Gilmour and the young Scottish man has given numbers each day. So moving for another midfielder would definitely hamper Gilmour’s development and the Chelsea board will not let him suffer. Also, Chelsea has the likes of Gallagher, Loftus-Cheek, Barkley, and Bakayoko to return from loan who can play a similar role and thus making this move a bit more difficult.
So offloading someone is the only option. Jorginho’s agent has expressed about his client’s inclination towards a move back to Italy but the Chelsea board are ready to offer him a long-term extension. If Jorginho decides to leave, his fellow countrymen could be the best replacement at Stamford Bridge.
