Chelsea reportedly approach Spanish giants Real Madrid for their defender Achraf Hakimi, who is currently on loan at Borussia Dortmund.

According to The Mirror, Chelsea have made an approach for Moroccan full-back but the Spanish club will not make any decision until the official conclusion of the season.

Achraf Hakimi is spending his second year on loan at Dortmund after failing to nail down a starting spot in Real Madrid’s squad.

The defender, who has mostly been deployed at wing-back, can play on either side of defence has impressed scouts and supporters with his performances for Lucien Favre’s side.

Frank Lampard sees the 21-year-old as a long term option who could bolster his defence with club captain Cesar Azpilicueta edging closer to the end of his contract.

Hakimi is one of just few defenders who have acquired double figures for assists in the current campaign, providing 10 assists in the league while scoring three times for Dortmund.

The German club does not include an option to purchase at the end of his loan spell, a decision which has prompted other clubs to assess the possibility of signing the Morocco international.

Hakimi’s contract with Real Madrid is set to end in the summer of 2020 but plans are being made to see him stay further more than that.

Zinedine Zidane has been reported to want the youngster in his plans for next season, with Alvaro Odriozola (currently on loan at Bayern Munich) likely to see the exit after failing to impress the gaffer.
