Chelsea interested in signing Villarreal defender Pau Torres

Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing Villarreal defender Pau Torres in the upcoming summer transfer window.

According to the DailyMail, the Blues are keeping tabs on the 23-year-old defender and are in the race for his signature this summer. Manchester United and FC Barcelona are also interested him the Spanish centre-back. The centre-back came through the youth ranks of the Yellow Submarines and was loaned to Malaga last season. After a good loan stint, he was called back made a regular starter in La Liga. He has featured in 31 games for Villarreal this season and has complimented veteran Raul Albiol brilliantly.


The defender has a release clause of £45m and an offer from Chelsea could make the 23-year-old defender an appealing choice ahead of the transfer window. Kurt Zouma has been linked with a move to Merseyside and the Blues will someone to replace the Frenchman. Manchester City want Torres to partner Laporte in the defense. The Red Devils want the 23-year-old to partner Harry Maguire at the back. Catalan giants FC Barcelona want Pau to replace veteran Gerard Pique.

The Blues will need to bid first in order to secure the player. The report suggests that Lampard is keen on improving the centre-back pairing as the Blues have already conceded 44 goals in 32 games in PL. Christensen and Rudiger were to blame for their mistakes in Chelsea’s recent loss against West Ham. Chelsea travel to Crystal Palace on Tuesday in order to boost their chances of making it to the top four.
