Aston Villa are already preparing for the next season, having signed Buendia; Dean Smith looks to add more firepower into his squad in their quest to play European football. One name popping up as a potential signing for Villa is Watford’s midfielder Will Hughes.
The Athletic reported that Villa are one of the suitors for Hughes this summer as he enters the final year of his contract. The player still seems happy at Vicarage road, the prospect of finishing at a European place could tempt him to move clubs.
“I’m really happy here, there’s nothing better and that’s how I want it to remain It’s as simple as that. There are no thoughts in my head about me moving elsewhere,” Hughes said when asked about his current situation. “That’s in my agent’s and the club’s hands. That’s not something I’m really concerned about and it’s not something that I’ve really thought about. I’ll give my all for Watford until my contract is up,” he gave his loyalties to Watford when asked about a potential move though insisted he may still depart.
Dean Smith would be more than happy to have Hughes for the coming season as Hughes comes with the experience of 77 caps to his name in the PL. Talking about his recruitment policy he was quoted saying: “In terms of our recruitment, we talk about the sweet spots that we’re looking for, which is that the players have Premier League experience and are British because there is no adaptation at all.”
Will Hughes fits the bill perfectly. His wages of £30,000-a-week would also come in handy for Aston Villa bosses.
As Hughes has just one year left on his contract, Watford will look to cash in on his transfer. His move to Villa looks more than likely unless he either agrees on a stay at Vicarage road or finds himself another suitor.
