Leicester City’s 18-year-old centre back sensation, Ben Nelson, is already catching the eye of big English clubs. And his recent spoils in the academy of the East Midlands, just show how good is the Scottish defender.
In the 2020/21 season, the Foxes’ sensation received the award for “The Best Academy player of the season”. And his talent was soon recognised and appreciated for at the club, as he signed the U23 contract in 2020. Since then, Nelson has become a regular for Leicester’s U23 side.
“It’s unreal, really, I think I hadn’t expected that at the start of the year!” 🤩

Ben Nelson, has shown his prowess this season in particular. Winning air duels, tackling, making interceptions, and scoring headed goals as well- the young boy has got it all in his locker. Although, he has not yet been given the luxury of playing for the first team, but the Northamptonian has trained in the squad sessions held under the guidance of Brendan Rodgers.
“When I look at the training sessions, I picked up little things through the older centre-backs and now have to try and mould that into my game. It just made me want to get another experience like that and carry on” he said on the official Leicester website.
Meanwhile, seeing his growth and the overall development, Nelson has received a call up for the U18 National side, back in November 2021. He has gotten 2 international caps under his belt, and will be hoping to feature again in the upcoming fixtures of the ‘Young Lions‘. They will be facing Austria, Wales and Croatia in a 4-nation tournament, which will be held in Zagreb.
It has been reported by an outlet, FootballInsider, that scouts from Newcastle, and both of the Manchester clubs will be present in attendance to watch the Leicester starlet. And as far as recruitment of the young talents is concerned, there is none better than those who work under Erik Ten Hag – like we saw his Ajax side. So, we shall hear it from one of the scout reports not long from now, as the Young Lions are all set to face the Austria U18s on the 7th of June.
