The 22-year-old Switzerland defender has been a long-standing target for the Gunners but a move to the Emirates Stadium fell through under former manager Unai Emery.

With the coronavirus situation wrecking the transfer market, Arsenal could be trying their luck once again in a bid to sign the player.

Mikel Arterta is looking to revamp his squad with young sensations who are hungry for success his focus as he looks to grab Comert for around £2 million, which should be a bargain.

Comert, since arriving at Basel in the summer of 2016 has made his way into the first team with impressive displays managing 73 appearances.

He’s been a vital player at Basel serving as the solid rock in the defence with 14 clean sheets in 35 outings so far this season.

The 22-year-old has also been crucial for Basel in their Europa League campaign and has announced his presence in the European competition, helping the Rotblau to almost securing a spot in the quarter finals of the competition after beating Eintracht Frankfurt 3-0 away in the round of 16.

With his best performances coming mainly in the Europa League, the Gunners are keen on the defender and set to battle Turkish giant Galatasary for his signature.

Arsenal are tipped to be part of the many clubs who could be struck heavily by the impact of the coronavirus, and in dealing with this the club are set to use swap deals and effective bargains in the summer transfer window.

Nevertheless, Arterta would have to sacrifice a number of key players including Alexcandre Lacazette, and Mesut Ozil whose future at the club looks to be shaky and uncertain.

Should Arsenal land Comert’s signature, he could be part of a long term back four with the likes of William Saliba, Kieran Tierney and Hector Bellerin all coming through.
